Medical Information:
Accolate helps prevent asthma attacks. It is prescribed for long-term treatment.
Accolate (zafirlukast) is an oral leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA) for the maintenance treatment of asthma. Available as a tablet, it blocks the effects of substances which cause constriction of the airways, build-up of mucus in the lungs and inflammation of the breathing passages.
Accolate was the first LTRA to be marketed in the USA and is now approved in over 60 countries, including the UK, Japan, Italy, Spain, Canada, Brazil and China.
Accolate is approved in the USA for adults and children aged 5 years and above.
Accolate will not stop an asthma attack once it starts. You will still need to use an airway-opening medication when an attack occurs.
Dosage:ADULTS The usual dose for adults and children 12 years of age and over is 20 milligrams twice a day.
CHILDRENThe usual dose for children 7 to 11 years of age is 10 milligrams twice a day. Safety and effectiveness in children under 7 years of age have not been established. AccolateCategory:•Antiasthmatic, leukotriene receptor antagonist•Prophylaxis and chronic treatment of Asthma•Prophylaxis for seasonal allergic rhinitisDose: For asthma: 1. Adults and children 12 years of age and older—20 milligrams (mg) two times a day, on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. 2. Children between 7 and 11 years of age—10 milligrams two times a day, on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. 3. For this reason, it should be taken on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
Retinoic acid is the oxidized form of Vitamin A.
Retinoic Acid is often used to improve the appearance and texture of the skin. It produces a mild, superficial peel of the epidermis. Retin-A has effects on the both the superficial (epidermis) and the deep(dermis) parts of the skin. The major benefit is to decrease the effects of sunlight caused aging by increasing the speed with which the surface cells are replaced.
In the epidermis it thins the outer later, or stratum corneum, which makes the skin more permeable. However the overall thickness of the epidermis is increased. The epidermal cells are also more active. The production of collagen in the dermis is increased.
The most common problems are redness and sensitivity to the sun but serious complications are rare. If Retinoic acid is used repeatedly there is a risk of loss of pigment or lightning of the skin. Some patients say that the irritation is painful but scarring does not occur.
Some patients find that Renova which is Retinoic acidmixed with an emollient cream is less irritating.
Many surgeons like to use Retinoic acid to prepare the skin before skin resurfacing with peels and lasers.
Some doctors feel that bleaching agents are more effective in the treatmentof chloasma (pigment change during pregnancy) when combined with retinoic acid.
ACTONEL is indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.
Risedronate is used to prevent and treat certain types of bone loss (osteoporosis). Osteoporosis causes bones to become thinner and break (fracture) more easily. Your chance of developing osteoporosis increases as you age, after menopause, or if you are taking corticosteroid medications (e.g., prednisone) for long periods of time.
This medication works by slowing bone loss to help maintain strong bones and reduce the risk of fractures. Risedronate belongs to a class of medications called bisphosphonates.
How to use Actonel OralRead the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using risedronate and each time you get a refill. Follow the instructions very closely to maximize the amount of drug absorbed and reduce the risk of injury to your esophagus. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
Take this medication by mouth, usually once a day or as directed by your doctor. Take it after getting up for the day and before taking your first food, beverage or other medication. Do not take it at bedtime or while you are still in bed.
Take this medication with a full glass (6-8 ounces or 180-240 milliliters) of plain water. Do not take it with any other beverage. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not chew or suck on it. Then stay fully upright (sitting, standing or walking) for at least 30 minutes, and do not lie down until after your first food of the day. Wait at least 30 minutes after taking risedronate before you eat or drink anything other than plain water and before taking any other medication by mouth.
Calcium or iron supplements, vitamins with minerals, antacids containing calcium/magnesium/aluminum, dairy products (e.g., milk, yogurt), and calcium-enriched juice may interfere with absorption of risedronate. Medications such as quinapril, certain forms of didanosine (chewable/dispersible buffered tablets or pediatric oral solution), sucralfate, and bismuth subsalicylate may also interfere with absorption. Do not take these products for at least 30 minutes after taking risedronate.
Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Remember to take it at the same time each morning.Risedronate sodium (Actonel)Category: Prevention and treatment of osteoporosis Risedronate sodium is the generic name for Actonel (brand name). Actonel is chemically known as a diphosphonate medication. It is not a hormone. Actonel works only on the bone and does not affect the heart, breast, uterus or other parts of the body.
Actonel increases the bone mineral density of the existing skeleton and reduces the risk of all osteoporosis-related fractures (fractures of the spine and other non-spine areas) in patients with osteoporosis.
Actonel is FDA-approved for osteoporosis prevention and treatment in postmenopausal women. In addition, Actonel may be used to treat women and men with osteoporosis resulting from the use of long-term steroid medications or to prevent osteoporosis related to steroid use.
Actonel is prescribed as a 5mg tablet taken daily or as a 35mg tablet taken once a week. When taking Actonel, it is recommended to get adequate calcium and vitamin D each day.

Inform your doctor if your condition worsens (e.g., your routine blood pressure readings increase).Adalat is often used in its generic form, nifedipine, and is a member of the family of medications known as calcium channel blockers. Adalat is commonly used to treat chest pain and hypertension, as well as some other heart conditions. Calcium channel blockers widen and relax the blood vessels to allow the blood to pump more efficiently and effectively through the body, easing the strain of pumping on the heart.
Patients with a medical history which includes liver disease, kidney disease, congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, low blood pressure, sick sinus syndrome, or aortic stenosis may not be able to take Adalat or may need to be carefully monitored while undergoing drug therapy with Adalat, depending on the condition, the severity of the condition, and the overall health of the patient. Physicians should always conduct a thorough medical history prior to prescribing medications.
Adalat received a pregnancy risk rating category C, meaning that it has yet to be determined whether or not this medication will cause harm or birth defects in a developing fetus. Adalat has been proven to pass through the mother’s breast milk and can affect a nursing baby. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not be prescribed Adalat.
Treating severe acne. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.Erythromycin Gel is a topical macrolide antibiotic that is thought to improve acne by slowing the growth of bacteria on the skin, which causes acne.
This product is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This product is also used to treat swelling/water retention (edema), which can result from conditions such as heart failure, severe liver disease, or severe kidney disease. Reducing swelling/water retention can help to improve symptoms such as trouble breathing. This product contains two medications, spironolactone and hydrochlorothiazide. Both are water pills (diuretics) that work by increasing the amount of urine that you make. This causes your body to get rid of extra salt and water, which is thought to help relax the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. Spironolactone also blocks the activity of a certain natural substance made by your body (aldosterone) that may contribute to swelling/fluid retention in certain conditions.
Aldactone is used for: Treating swelling and fluid retention inpatients with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis, or kidney problems (nephrotic syndrome). It is also used for treatment of high blood pressure. It may also be used to treat or prevent low blood potassium.
Aldactone (spironolactone) is indicated in the management of: Establishing the diagnosis of primary hyperaldosteronism by therapeutic trial.Short-term preoperative treatment of patients with primary hyperaldosteronism.
Long-term maintenance therapy for patients with discrete aldosterone-producing adrenal adenomas who are judged to be poor operative risks or who decline surgery.Long-term maintenance therapy for patients with bilateral micro or macronodular adrenal hyperplasia (idiopathic hyperaldosteronism).
For the management of edema and sodium retention when the patient is only partially responsive to, or is intolerant of, other therapeutic measures. Aldactone is also indicated for patients with congestive heart failure taking digitalis when other therapies are considered inappropriate.
For nephrotic patients when treatment of the underlying disease, restriction of fluid and sodium intake, and the use of other diuretics do not provide an adequate response.Common uses - This medicine is a potassium-sparing diuretic used to treat congestive heart failure or high blood pressure. Imiquimod topical is used to treat different types of skin disorders.
Aldara Cream is indicated for the topical treatment of clinically typical, nonhyperkeratotic, nonhypertrophic actinic keratoses on the face or scalp in immunocompetent adults.
Aldara Cream is indicated for the treatment of external genital and perianal warts/condyloma acuminata in patients 12 years or older.Drug Uses -
Aldara Cream is used to treat external genital and perianal warts and is different from most other treatments. It is a patient-applied cream that helps the body fights the virus instead of just getting rid of the warts. So Aldara Cream actually treats warts from the inside out.
How Taken -
Aldara cream is easy to use at home. It's rubbed on the warts and left on during sleeping hours. Then it's washed off after waking. Use Aldara Cream exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Aldara Cream is for skin use only. Do not take by mouth or use in or near your eyes, lips or nostrils. Do not use Aldara Cream unless your healthcare provider has taught you the right way to use it. Talk to your healthcare provider if you have any questions. Aldara Cream is used for several skin conditions. Use Aldara Cream only on the area of your body to be treated. Your healthcare provider will tell you where to apply Aldara cream and how often and for how long to apply it for your condition. Do not use Aldara Cream longer than prescribed. Using too much Aldara Cream, or using it too often, or for too long can increase your chances for having a severe skin reaction or other side effect. Talk to your healthcare provider if Aldara Cream does not work for you. For external genital and perianal warts Aldara Cream is usually used once a day for 3 days a week. For these conditions, Aldara Cream is usually left on the skin for 6 to 10 hours. Treatment should continue until the warts are completely gone, or up to 16 weeks. For actinic keratosis, Aldara Cream is usually used once a day for 2 days a week. For this condition, Aldara Cream is usually left on the skin for about 8 hours. Treatment should continue for the full 16 weeks even if all actinic keratoses appear to be gone, unless you are told otherwise by your healthcare provider. The area you treat with Aldara Cream should be no larger than approximately the size of your forehead or one cheek (for example 2 inches).
Warnings/Precautions -
If you notice severe skin irritation or flu-like symptoms (diarrhea, fatigue, fever, headache, or muscle pain), check with your doctor. It may be necessary for you to reduce the number of times a day that you use the medicine or to stop using the medicine for a short time until your skin is less irritated or your flu-like symptoms disappear. Avoid having genital, oral, or anal sex while the medicine is on your skin. Make sure you wash the cream off your skin before you engage in any sexual activity. Also, the medicine contains oils that can weaken latex (rubber) condoms, diaphragms, or cervical caps causing them not to work properly to prevent pregnancy. Do not use any other skin product on the same skin area on which you use this medicine, unless directed otherwise by your doctor. Do not share your medicine with others, even if you think that they have the same condition you have. If you are pregnant, check with your health care provider.

This belongs to the group of medicines known as vitamins.Alfacalcidol is a form of Vitamin D. Vitamin D is necessary for healthy bones and teeth, and a healthy immune system.Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin. It controls the absorption of calcium from the gut and is used to make bones. The body can make vitamin D when the skin is exposed to sunlight. Deficiency is caused by inadequate exposure to sunlight and low consumption of foods containing Vitamin D. The best natural sources are found in oily fish (sardine, herring, salmon and tuna), liver, dairy products and egg yolks.Long-term Vitamin D deficiency may cause low blood levels of calcium and phosphate, which results in the softening of the bones. In children this can cause abnormal bone development (rickets) and in adults it can cause osteoporosis, backache, muscle weakness, bone pain and fractures. Alfacalcidol is used to treat Vitamin D deficiency and conditions where there is not enough calcium in the blood especially in patients who have kidney problems.Alfacalcidol is also sometimes known as hydroxycholecalciferol. You may notice the use of either spelling on your container.Alfacalcidol is available in capsule, oral drops and injection form.It is also sometimes known as: One-Alpha. You may notice the use of any of these names on the packaging of your medicine. How does it work? When Vitamin D is ingested in the form usually present in the diet (or produced in the skin by the action of sunlight) it requires to be "activated" by a series of chemical steps before it has any effect in the body. An important action of Vitamin D is to increase the absorption of calcium in the food we eat and so to maintain calcium stores in the body. One step in the activation of the Vitamin takes place in the kidney and requires the presence of a hormone called parathyroid hormone (PTH). When PTH is lacking in the body (which is the case following parathyroidectomy) the kidney step cannot take place and calcium deficiency (hypocalcaemia) results. To get around this problem it is necessary to by-pass the kidney step by taking the "activated" form of Vitamin D which is Alfacalcidol. Alfacalcidol is therefore used to prevent Vitamin D deficiency and thus hypocalcaemia in people who have undergone the surgical removal of their parathyroid glands (parathyroidectomy). How do I take it?Alfacalcidol can be taken as a capsule or as a liquid for which purpose a measure/dispenser is provided. The individual dose is that required to maintain a normal level of calcium in the blood. It may be adjusted from time to time in response to blood test results. Most adults require to take between 1 microgram and 3 microgram Alfacalcidol daily in order to achieve initial control of their calcium level but the maintenance dose thereafter is normally in the range 0.25 microgram to 1 microgram per day. The dose is taken once a day and at any time of the day.
AMARYLAmaryl is an oral medication used to treat type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes when diet and exercise alone fail to control abnormally high levels of blood sugar. This drug has low side effects if used properly and like other diabetes drugs classified as sulfonylureas, Amaryl lowers blood sugar by stimulating the pancreas to produce more insulin. Amaryl is often prescribed along with the insulin-boosting drug Glucophage. It may also be used in conjunction with insulin and other diabetes drugs
What are the Amaryl side effects and warnings? What should I do if a problem occurs when using Amaryl?
The definition of a side effect is; a problem or problems that may occur when the desired treatment goes beyond what the drug was intended to effect or cure. Other possible affects are problems that may occur in addition to the desired medical effect. As with all drugs there is always the possibility of side effects and various problems that may occur while taking a prescription drug. If any side effects of Amaryl occur contact your doctor immediately or with extreme cases of danger call or visit your local emergency room. Some of the side effects common with many drugs may include weight gain and/or weight loss which should not always be viewed as an adverse side effect or problem. As with all prescription drugs the manufacturer is required to name the recommended dosage and possible side effects of the products that they have for sale. With some drugs the dangers and side effects may vary with the individual and can be altered by changes in your personal lifestyle such as a diet or health change. You may also find additional reviews, warnings and dangers from Amaryl by reading health forums and news articles.
AnafranilAnafranil (Clomipramine Hydrochloride) - TabletAnafranil is manufactured by Novartis. This medicine is a tricyclic antidepressant used to treat depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Anafranil, a chemical cousin of tricyclic antidepressant medications such as Tofranil and Elavil, is used to treat people who suffer from obsessions and compulsions. An obsession is a persistent, disturbing idea, image, or urge that keeps coming to mind despite the person's efforts to ignore or forget it---for example, a preoccupation with avoiding contamination.
A compulsion is an irrational action that the person knows is senseless but feels driven to repeat again and again---for example, hand-washing perhaps dozens or even scores of times throughout the day.
Aricept is used for: Treating mild to moderate dementia (eg, impairment of memory, judgment, and abstract thinking; changes in personality) caused by Alzheimer disease.
Donepezil (doe-NEP-ah-zil) is used to treat the symptoms of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. Donepezil will not cure Alzheimer's disease, and it will not stop the disease from getting worse. However, it can improve thinking ability in some patients.
Donepezil improves the function of nerve cells in the brain. It works by preventing the breakdown of a chemical called acetylcholine (ah see til KO leen). People with dementia usually have lower levels of this chemical, which is important for the processes of memory, thinking, and reasoning
Aricept is one of the few drugs that can provide some relief from the symptoms of early Alzheimer's disease. (Cognex, Exelon, and Reminyl are others.) Alzheimer's disease causes physical changes in the brain that disrupt the flow of information and interfere with memory, thinking, and behavior.Aricept is one of a group of drugs called "cholinesterase inhibitors" which is used to treat symptoms in individuals with mild to moderate Alzheimer Disease.
In brains of people with Alzheimer Disease there is a progressive degeneration of nerve cells. Particularly notable is a degeneration of cells which make acetylcholine, a chemical thought to be important for learning and memory. People with Alzheimer Disease have lower brain levels of acetylcholine. Aricept acts by decreasing the activity of acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme whose function is to break down acetylcholine. It is believed that because Aricept reduces the breakdown of acetylcholine, it will lead to an increase in the level of acetylcholine in the brain. The potential beneficial effect could lessen as the disease progresses and when fewer cells are available to make acetylcholine.
How does it help?Aricept is intended to treat symptoms in individuals with mild to moderate Alzheimer Disease. In clinical trials, individuals who took Aricept when compared to individuals who took a placebo (a substance which looks like the drug but has no effect), showed improvement or no further decline in cognition (including memory, orientation, language) and function (including performance of daily activities).
Aricept may take as long as 12 weeks to begin working, and the type of and length of response to this medicine will vary from individual to individual.
What does Aricept not do?Aricept is not a cure for Alzheimer Disease as it does not affect the underlying degenerative process of the disease.
Who should take Aricept?Individuals who have been diagnosed with mild to moderate Alzheimer Disease.
Important! Things to know before taking AriceptYou should tell the doctor if you are allergic to donepezil hydrochloride or piperidine derivatives such as Mycobutin (rifabutin), Ritalin (methylphenidate), Akineton (biperiden HCI), Artane (trihexyphenidyl HCI), Bupivacaine HCI, and Paxil (paroxetine HCI). You should also tell your doctor if you have a condition affecting your heart or your lungs; if you have had seizures; if you have had fainting spells; and if you have a history of peptic ulcers or have an increased risk of developing ulcers (for example, if you are taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs [NSAIDs] or high doses of acetylsalicylic acid [ASA/Aspirin]).
Aricept should not be used if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
How do you take Aricept?Take Aricept only as prescribed by your doctor. Never change the dose yourself.
Take Aricept in the evening, just before going to bed. If you experience insomnia (difficulty sleeping), Aricept may be taken in the morning.
Aricept may be taken with or without food.
If you miss taking a dose of Aricept do not worry, just take the next dose when it is due. Do NOT take 2 doses at once.

Aricept is available in a blisterpack to help remind you to take your medication every day. Ask your physician or pharmacist for more details.
This medicine has been prescribed only for you or for the person you are caring for. Never give it to anyone else.
What are the possible side effects?Along with its beneficial effect, Aricept may cause some undesirable reactions. The most common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, insomnia, vomiting, muscle cramps, fatigue and loss of appetite. In clinical studies these effects were often mild, and generally went away with continued treatment. In clinical studies some patients treated with Aricept experienced fainting. If you feel unwell in any other way or have any symptoms that you do not understand, or find distressing, you should contact your doctor immediately.
What to do if an overdose is takenIf more medication has been taken than what has been prescribed, contact your doctor, hospital emergency department, or the nearest poison control centre immediately.

Candesartan (kan-de-SAR-tan) belongs to the class of medicines called angiotensin II inhibitors. It is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
High blood pressure adds to the workload of the heart and arteries. If it continues for a long time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. These problems may be less likely to occur if blood pressure is controlled.
Candesartan works by blocking the action of a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten. As a result, candesartan relaxes blood vessels. This lowers blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention.
Hydrochlorothiazide treats fluid retention (edema) in people with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, or kidney disorders, or edema caused by taking steroids or estrogen. This medication is also used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).Manufactured by AstraZeneca Inc. These medicines are used to lower high blood pressure and work by relaxing blood vessels. Angiotensin II is a chemical that the body releases to cause the constriction of blood vessels. Candesartan blocks the action of angiotensin II, resulting in the relaxation of the blood vessels. This relaxation causes the blood pressure to decrease. It takes about 2 weeks for the drug to begin to the lower your blood pressure, and about 4 weeks for it to reach its full effect.
Your doctor may choose to use this medication for other conditions. If you're unsure why you are taking this medication, contact your doctor.
AVANDIA (rosiglitazone maleate) is an oral antidiabetic agent which acts primarily by increasing insulin sensitivity.
AVANDIA improves glycemic control while reducing circulating insulin levels.
AVANDIA is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Due to its mechanism of action, AVANDIA is active only in the presence of endogenous insulin. Therefore, AVANDIA should not be used in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
The coadministration of AVANDIA and insulin is not recommended. The use of AVANDIA with nitrates is not recommended. Rosiglitazone (Avandia) is used, alone or in combination with other medications, to treat type 2 (noninsulin-dependent) diabetes (formerly "adult-onset") in people whose diabetes cannot be controlled by diet and exercise alone. Rosiglitazone (Avandia) is in a class of drugs called thiazolidinediones. These drugs work by increasing your bodys sensitivity to insulin, a substance your body produces to help control blood sugar levels. Rosiglitazone (Avandia) is not used to treat type 1 (insulin-dependent) diabetes (formerly "juvenile-onset").
Avandia is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more Avandia information.
How should Avandia be used?Rosiglitazone (Avandia) comes as a tablet to take by mouth. Avandia is usually taken once or twice daily with or without meals. Follow the Avandia directions on your Avandia prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take rosiglitazone (Avandia) exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of Avandia or take Avandia more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Rosiglitazone (Avandia) controls type 2 diabetes but does not cure it. Continue to take rosiglitazone (Avandia) even if you feel well. Do not stop taking rosiglitazone (Avandia) without talking to your doctor.
Dutasteride prevents the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body. DHT is involved in the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Dutasteride is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with an enlarged prostate. This medicine helps improve urinary flow and may also reduce your need for prostate surgery later on.
Treating symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or enlargement of the prostate gland. It also helps to reduce the risk of urinary blockage and the need for prostate surgery.
Avodart is a 5 alpha-reductase enzyme inhibitor. It works by lowering levels of a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is a major cause of prostate growth. Lowering DHT leads to shrinkage of the enlarged prostate gland.
AVODART is indicated for the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men with an enlarged prostate to: 1. Improve symptoms. 2. Reduce the risk of acute urinary retention3. Reduce the risk of the need for BPH-related surgery. Avodart® is the new medication from GlaxoSmithKline for reducing DHT. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is the main hormone linked to hairloss. Propecia® prevents one of two enzymes from being converted into DHT and blocks 2/3 of the DHT production. The new medication Avodart® blocks both enzymes in the body that convert into DHT and reduces overall DHT production by over 93%.
Avodart® comes in a 0.5mg softgel capsule that is taken by mouth once per day.
Beloc Zok tablets are indicated for the treatment of hypertension. They may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
Beloc Zok is indicated in the long-term treatment of angina pectoris.
This group of medicines is known as beta-adrenergic blocking agents, beta-blocking agents, or, more commonly, beta-blockers. Beta-blockers are used in the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension). Some beta-blockers are also used to relieve angina (chest pain) and in heart attack patients to help prevent additional heart attacks. Beta-blockers are also used to correct irregular heartbeat, prevent migraine headaches, and treat tremors. They may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Beta-blockers work by affecting the response to some nerve impulses in certain parts of the body. As a result, they decrease the heart's need for blood and oxygen by reducing its workload. They also help the heart to beat more regularlyBelok Zok ampuls and tablets are indicated in the treatment of hemodynamically stable patients with definite or suspected acute myocardial infarction to reduce cardiovascular mortality. Treatment with intravenous Belok can be initiated as soon as the patient's clinical condition allows.
Metoprolol, a type of medication known as a beta blocker, is used in the treatment of high blood pressure, angina pectoris (chest pain, usually caused by lack of oxygen to the heart due to clogged arteries), and heart attack. When prescribed for high blood pressure, it is effective when used alone or in combination with other high blood pressure medications. Beta blockers decrease the force and rate of heart contractions, thereby reducing the demand for oxygen and lowering blood pressure.
Occasionally doctors prescribe Lopressor for the treatment of aggressive behavior, prevention of migraine headache, and relief of temporary anxiety.
An extended-release form of metoprolol, called Toprol-XL, is prescribed for high blood pressure, angina, and heart failure. One of the active ingredients of Beloc Zok is metoprolol tartrate.

Erythromycin and benzoyl peroxide (eh-rith-roe-MYE-sin and BEN-zoe-ill per-OX-ide) combination is used to help control acne.
This medicine is applied to the skin. It may be used alone or with other medicines that are applied to the skin or taken by mouth for acne.
Benzoyl peroxide has an antibacterial effect. It also has a mild drying effect that allows excess oils and dirt to be easily washed away.
Erythromycin is an antibiotic. Erythromycin topical prevents bacteria from growing on the skin.
Together, benzoyl peroxide and erythromycin are used to treat acne.A combination of the antibiotic erythromycin and the antibacterial agent benzoyl peroxide, Benzamycin is effective in stopping the bacteria that cause acne and in reducing acne infection.Benzamycin® also known asErythromycin-benzoyl peroxide gel is an anti-biotic with an oxidizing agent used for the treatment of acne
Erythromycin is a bacteriostatic macrolide antibiotic, but may be bactericidal in high concentrations. Although the mechanism by which erythromycin acts in reducing inflammatory lesions of acne vulgaris is not fully elucidated, it is presumably due to its antibiotic action. It inhibits the growth of P. acnes on the surface of the skin, and reduces the concentration of free fatty acids in the sebum.
Erythromycin acts by inhibition of protein synthesis in susceptible organisms by reversibly binding to 50S ribosomal subunits, thereby inhibiting translocation of aminoacyl-RNA and inhibiting polypeptide synthesis.
Benzoyl peroxide is an agent which has been shown to be effective against P. acnes, an anaerobe found in sebaceous follicles and comedones. The antibacterial action of benzoyl peroxide is believed to be due to the release of active oxygen. Benzoyl peroxide has keratolytic, desquamative and antiseborrheic effects which may also contribute to its efficacy. Benzoyl peroxide has been shown to be absorbed by the skin where it is converted to benzoic acid. Approximately 5% of the metabolite is excreted unchanged in the urine.
Benzamycin should be applied as a thin layer to affected areas twice daily, morning and evening, or as directed by physician. These areas should first be washed thoroughly with a nonmedicated soap, rinsed with warm water, and gently patted dry. Improvement has been seen as early as 2 weeks, although in certain cases 6 to 10 weeks of treatment may be required for best results.

Treating or preventing blood clots that may occur in the veins and lungs. It is used to treat or prevent blood clots that may occur because of a certain type of abnormal heartbeat (atrial fibrillation) or heart valve replacement. It is also used to reduce the risk of death, recurring heart attack, or blood clotting events (eg, stroke) after a heart attack. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Coumadin is an anticoagulant. It works by blocking the formation of ceratin blood clotting factors.Warfarin is an anticoagulant (blood thinner). Warfarin reduces the formation of blood clots.
Warfarin is used to prevent heart attacks, strokes, and blood clots in veins and arteries.Anticoagulants decrease the clotting ability of the blood and therefore help to prevent harmful clots from forming in the blood vessels. These medicines are sometimes called blood thinners, although they do not actually thin the blood. They also will not dissolve clots that already have formed, but they may prevent the clots from becoming larger and causing more serious problems. They are often used as treatment for certain blood vessel, heart, and lung conditions.
In order for an anticoagulant to help you without causing serious bleeding, it must be used properly and all of the precautions concerning its use must be followed exactly. Be sure that you have discussed the use of this medicine with your doctor. It is very important that you understand all of your doctor's orders and that you are willing and able to follow them exactly.

Prevent and/or treat blood clots associated with certain heart conditions or replacement of a heart valve. 3. Aid in the prevention of blood clots that may form in blood vessels anywhere in the body after a heart attack. 4. Reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, or stroke after a heart attack. .
Coversyl Tablets is indicated in patients with stable coronary artery disease to reduce the risk of cardiovascular mortality or nonfatal myocardial Infarction.
Coversyl Tablets can be used with conventional treatment for management of coronary artery disease, such as antiplatelet, antihypertensive or lipid lowering therapy.
Hypertension: Coversyl Tablets is indicated for the treatment of patients with essential hypertension. Coversyl Tablets may be used alone or given with other classes of antihypertensives, especially thiazide diuretics.Coversyl is used in the treatment of high blood pressure. It can be taken alone or in combination with thiazide diuretics that help rid the body of excess water. Coversyl belongs to a family of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It works by preventing a chemical in your blood called angiotensin I from converting into a more potent form that increases salt and water retention in your body. Coversyl also improves the flow of blood through the circulatory system.
Coversyl plus is an oral antihypertensive/diuretic. Coversyl plus is indicated for the treatment of hypertension and also indicated for the treatment of salt and fluid retention associated with congestive heart failure.
Losartan (loe-SAR-tan) is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure adds to the work load of the heart and arteries.
Losartan works by blocking the action of a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to tighten. As a result, losartan relaxes blood vessels. This lowers blood pressure.
Losartan is also used to decrease the risk of stroke in patients with high blood pressure and a condition called left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). LVH is an enlargement of the left pumping chamber of the heart and can cause problems with the way the heart pumps blood.
Losartan is also used to treat a condition called diabetic nephropathy. Diabetic nephropathy is a complication of type 2 diabetes which causes the kidneys to not work properly.Cozaar is used in the treatment of high blood pressure. It is effective when used alone or with other high blood pressure medications, such as diuretics that help the body get rid of water.
Cozaar is also used to slow the progress of kidney disease caused by type 2 diabetes (the type of diabetes that doesn't require insulin shots). This medicine contains the active ingredient prednisolone, which is a type of medicine known as a corticosteroid. Corticosteroids are hormones produced naturally by the adrenal glands which have many important functions, including control of inflammatory responses.
Prednisolone is a synthetic corticosteroid that is used to decrease inflammation in various different diseases and conditions. Corticosteroids are often simply called steroids, but it should be noted that they are very different from another group of steroids, called anabolic steroids, which have gained notoriety because of their abuse by some athletes and body builders.
Prednisolone works by acting within cells to prevent the release of certain chemicals that are important in the immune system. These chemicals are normally involved in producing immune and allergic responses, resulting in inflammation. By decreasing the release of these chemicals in a particular area, inflammation is reduced. This can help control a wide number of disease states, characterised by excessive inflammation. They include severe allergic reactions, inflammation of the lungs in asthma and inflammation of the joints in arthritis.
In high doses, prednisolone also decreases the numbers of white blood cells circulating in the blood. This, along with the decrease in inflammatory chemicals, can prevent the rejection of organ transplants, as it prevents the body from attacking foreign tissue. It is useful for the treatment of certain types of leukaemia, where there is an abnormally large production of certain white blood cells. It is also used to treat some diseases which are caused by the immune system attacking itself (auto immune diseases).
Prednisolone can also be given to people whose adrenal glands are not producing enough natural corticosteroids (adrenal insufficiency).
Prednisolone can be given orally or as an injection for all these purposes. It is also given by injection directly into a joint to relieve inflammation and pain and increase mobility of the affected joint, in conditions such as arthritis and tennis elbow.
Prednisolone is used in much higher doses than the levels of corticosteroids produced naturally by the body, and as such, the usual actions of corticosteroids become exaggerated and may be observed as side effects of this medicine.
What is it used for?
A form of cancer of the bone marrow (myeloma)Acute and lymphatic leukaemia Cancer of the lymph nodes (lymphoma) Diseases caused by the body's immune system attacking itself (autoimmune diseases such rheumatoid arthritis)Inflammatory disorders e.g. asthma, arthritis, severe allergic reactions, Crohn's disease, systemic lupus erythematosusInsufficient production of natural steroid hormones by the adrenal glands (adrenal insufficiency)Suppression of the immune system in organ transplantation
This medicine contains the active ingredient clobetasol propionate, which is a type of medicine called a corticosteroid.
Corticosteroids are medicines used for reducing inflammation. Inflammation of the skin happens due to irritation of the skin, and is caused by the release of various substances that are important in the immune system. These substances cause blood vessels to widen, resulting in the irritated area becoming red, swollen, itchy and painful.
When clobetasol is applied to the skin it works by acting inside the skin cells to decrease the release of these inflammatory substances. This reduces swelling, redness and itch. Clobetasol is a very potent corticosteroid that is applied to the skin to treat severe inflammatory skin disorders, such as eczema and psoriasis, that have not responded to milder steroids.
This medicine contains clobetasol formulated as a scalp application, which is thinner and easier to apply to the scalp than the clobetasol ointments and creams used on the rest of the body. It is used to treat severe inflammatory disorders of the scalp that have not responded to milder steroids.
Eczema affecting the scalp, unresponsive to weaker corticosteroids Psoriasis of the scalp
Desal is a diuretic which is an anthranilic acid derivative. Desal tablets for oral administration contain furosemide as the active ingredient.
Furosemide is indicated in adults and pediatric patients for the treatment of edema associated with congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, and renal disease, including the nephrotic syndrome.Furosemide is particularly useful when an agent with greater diuretic potential is desired.
Oral furosemide may be used in adults for the treatment of hypertension alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents. Hypertensive patients who cannot be adequately controlled with thiazides will probably also not be adequately controlled with Desal alone. Desal is a popular medicine that is also generically known under the name of Furosemide. This medicine is a drug that belongs to a wide class of medicines called water pills (diuretics). Water pills or diuretics are medicines that are known to effectively decrease the amount of liquids that remain in the organism by gradually increasing the amount of water and salt that are regularly excreted through urine.
Desal Indications -Desal is a drug that is regularly prescribed to patients who are retaining dangerously high and unhealthy amounts of liquids in their organisms (this is known to regularly lead to swelling). Most patients who are in need of a treatment with Desal are regularly also suffering from liver disease, congestive heart failure and kidney or renal disorders. However, Furosemide is a medicine that might also serve some other purposes other than the ones that have been listed here.
Desal Warnings -A treatment with Desal might not be recommended in the case of patients who are suffering from these medical conditions and problems:
Diabetes Mellitus -Allergic reactions to sulfa based medicines such as sulfa based antibiotics Systemic lupus erythematosus Gout
If you have any of the medical conditions that have been listed here, you might not be allowed to start using Desal, or you might have to take in a lower dose of this medicine. Your personal physician might also want to regularly and closely monitor your treatment with this medicine to see how your organism responds to the treatment.
Desal is a Category C FDA pregnancy medicine. Therefore, it has not been clearly determined whether a treatment with this medicine during pregnancy could harm a growing fetus or not. If you are pregnant, or if you think that you might become pregnant any time soon, you should ask your personal physician if you may start taking this medicine. It has been clearly determined that this medicine’s main ingredients are able to pass into breast milk. Ask your personal healthcare provider if you may follow a treatment with this drug while you are breastfeeding an infant.
While you are following a treatment with Desal, you should avoid consuming any type of alcoholic beverages. Ask a pharmacist for more information about this product.
Desal Intake Guidelines -Ask your doctor to tell you how and when to take this drug. You can also rely on the instructions that are written on the drug’s label. If you need further explanations, you should ask a nurse, a doctor or a pharmacist. A dose of Desal is usually accompanied by a glass of water. You can take your doses of this drug on an empty stomach, because it is not known to cause stomach upset. As Desal is known to promote fluid excretion through the patient’s urine, it is best that you take this medicine in the morning, in order to avoid night time urination (That might cause insomnia). In order to get the maximum benefits from your treatment with this medicine you should take it on a regular basis.
Do not stop your treatment with Desal without your personal physician’s approval, as this might worsen your initial medical condition.
Desal Dosage -Ask your doctor to tell you the dose of Desal that works best in your case (the correct dosage of this drug is known to vary from one patient to another because it depends on a variety of factors such as age, the severity of the disorder, the patient’s body weight, etc).
This combination hormone medication is used to prevent pregnancy. It contains 2 hormones, a progestin and an estrogen. These hormones prevent pregnancy by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation). They also change the womb and cervical mucus, making it more difficult for an egg to meet sperm (fertilization) or for the fertilized egg to attach to the wall of the womb (implantation).
Besides preventing pregnancy, birth control pills have been shown to help make your periods more regular, decrease blood loss and painful periods (dysmenorrhea), and decrease your risk of ovarian cysts.
Use of this medication does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases (e.g., HIV, gonorrhea, chlamydia).
How to use Desogestrel-Ethinyl Estradiol OralRead the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using this product and each time you get a refill. Take this medication by mouth once daily or as directed by your doctor. Pick a time of day that is easy for you to remember, and take your pill at the same time each day.
It is very important to continue taking this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow the package instructions to find the first tablet, start with the first tablet in the pack, and take them in the correct order. Do not skip any doses. Pregnancy is more likely if you miss pills, start a new pack late, or take your pill at a different time of the day than usual.
Taking this medication after your evening meal or at bedtime may help if you have stomach upset or nausea with the medication. You may choose to take this medication at another time of day that is easier for you to remember. No matter what dosing schedule you use, it is very important that you take this medication at the same time each day, 24 hours apart. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
Your pill pack contains 21 pills (enough for 3 weeks) with a combination of estrogen and progestin. The last week of the pack contains 2 reminder pills with no medication and 5 pills that have a low dose of estrogen. Take one active pill (with both hormones) once daily for 21 days in a row. After the combination pills are finished, continue taking 1 tablet daily, starting with the 2 reminder tablets and finishing with the 5 estrogen-only tablets, or take as directed by your doctor. You should have your period during the fourth week of the cycle. After you have taken the last estrogen-only tablet in the pack, start a new pack the next day whether or not you have your period. If you do not get your period, consult your doctor.
If this is the first time you are using this medication and you are not switching from another form of hormonal birth control (e.g., patch, other birth control pills), take the first tablet in the pack on the first Sunday following the beginning of your menstrual period or on the first day of your period. If your period begins on a Sunday, begin taking this medication on that day. For the first cycle of use only, use an additional form of non-hormonal birth control (e.g., condoms, spermicide) for the first 7 days to prevent pregnancy until the medication has enough time to work. If you start on the first day of your period, you do not need to use back-up birth control the first week.

Dideral contains the active ingredient propranolol, which is a type of medicine called a beta-blocker. (NB. Propranolol is also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.) Beta-blockers work by blocking beta receptors that are found in various parts of the body. Blocking beta receptors prevents the action of two chemicals, called noradrenaline and adrenaline, which are produced naturally by the body. These are often referred to as the 'fight or flight' chemicals, because they are responsible for the body's reaction to stressful situations.
Beta receptors are found in the heart. When they are blocked by propranolol the heart is made to beat more slowly and with less force. This reduces the pressure at which the blood is pumped out of the heart and around the body. This in turn reduces blood pressure, which means that propranolol can be used to treat high blood pressure. It also reduces the energy used by the heart to pump blood around the body, and so reduces the heart's need for oxygen, which means it can also be used in the management of angina.
Angina is chest pain that occurs because the heart does not get enough oxygen to meet demand, such as when doing exercise. Propranolol reduces the workload of the heart and so decreases its demand for oxygen. This helps to prevent attacks of angina.
Propranolol is also prescribed to people who have had a heart attack, because its effects on the heart have been shown to decrease the likelihood of having a further heart attack, and to lower the risk of continued illness and death.
Slowing the heart rate also helps to control abnormal heart beats called arrhythmias. Arrhythmias can seriously undermine the pumping action of the heart and result in inefficient blood circulation around the body. Propranolol corrects the abnormal heart beat and thus can be used to treat arrhythmias.
In addition to these heart related uses, propranolol can also be used to control symptoms that are associated with anxiety or an overactive thyroid gland (thyrotoxicosis), such as a racing pulse, sweating and tremor. This is because it blocks the effects of adrenaline.
Propranolol is also used to prevent migraine, although it is not fully understood how propranolol works in this area.
Syprol is a liquid brand of propranolol.
High blood pressure (hypertension) Angina pectoris Irregular heart beats (arrhythmias)Heart disease characterised by thickening of the internal heart muscle and a blockage inside the heart (hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy)Prevention of further heart attacks following an initial heart attack Management of thyrotoxicosis and thyrotoxic crisis (with other medicines) Anxiety Tremor without underlying cause (essential tremor)Pre-surgical management of adrenal gland tumours (phaeochromocytoma), but only in combination with an alpha-blocking medicinePreventing bleeding from varicose veins in the foodpipe (oesophageal varices) that occur due to high blood pressure in the vein taking bood from the gut to the liver (portal hypertension) - usually a result of liver cirrhosis Prevention of migraines
Digoxin tablets and injection both contain the active ingredient digoxin, which is a type of medicine called a cardiac glycoside.
Digoxin is a form of digitalis, a drug that is extracted from the leaves of the foxglove plant. It is used to treat arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation and heart failure. Digoxin is also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.
Digoxin works directly on the heart muscle. It slows down the rate at which the heart beats, and also increases the force with which the heart muscle contracts with every heartbeat. This makes each heartbeat more efficient at pumping blood around the body.
Digoxin is used to treat certain abnormal heart rhythms caused by abnormal contractions in the upper part of the heart, in particular a condition called atrial fibrillation (AF). In AF, the upper two chambers of the heart, called the atria, contract very rapidly, and the lower two chambers of the heart, called the ventricles, respond by beating rapidly and irregularly. An irregular heartbeat is not very efficient at pumping blood around the body. By slowing the heart rate and making each beat more forceful, digoxin makes the heart pump more efficiently in this condition.
Digoxin is also used to treat heart failure, a condition where the heart's ability to pump blood around the body is diminished. By improving the efficiency of each heartbeat, digoxin allows the heart to continue to effectively pump blood and oxygen around the body.P>The blood level of digoxin that is needed for it to be effective is quite close to the blood level that can cause unwanted effects. This is true of a few medicines, and is described as a narrow therapeutic index. Treatment with the medicine is still safe, but your doctor will monitor your digoxin treatment closely, and may take blood tests to check the level of digoxin in your blood. You should tell your doctor if you experience any side effects during treatment, particularly nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, visual disturbances, heart palpitations or confusion, as these may indicate your blood level of digoxin is too high and that your dose needs reducing.
Heart failure.Abnormal heart rhythms caused by abnormal contractions in the upper part of the heart (supraventricular arrhythmias).Irregular heartbeat caused by very rapid contraction of the top two chambers of the heart (atrial fibrillation).
How to use Digoxin Oral -Take this medication by mouth with or without food, usually once daily or as directed by your doctor. Certain foods and medications decrease the absorption of digoxin. Therefore, take digoxin at least 2 hours before or after eating food products high in fiber (such as bran). If you are taking cholestyramine, colestipol, or psyllium, wait at least 2 hours after your digoxin dose before taking any of these products. If you are taking antacids, kaolin-pectin, milk of magnesia, metoclopramide, sulfasalazine, or aminosalicylic acid, take as far apart as possible from your digoxin dose.
Dosage is based on your medical condition, age, body weight, and response to therapy.

Cabergoline (ca-BER-goe-leen) is used to treat different types of medical problems that occur when too much of the hormone prolactin is produced. It can be used to treat certain menstrual problems, fertility problems in men and women, and pituitary prolactinomas (tumors of the pituitary gland).
It works by stopping the brain from making and releasing the prolactin hormone from the pituitary.
Cabergoline use is usually stopped when prolactin levels are normal for 6 months. It may be given again if symptoms of too much prolactin occur again.
Cabergoline is in a group of drugs called dopamine receptor antagonists. It works by reducing the amount of prolactin (a hormone) that is released from the pituitary gland.
Cabergoline is used to treat a hormone imbalance in which there is too much prolactin in the blood (also called hyperprolactinemia).
Treating disorders associated with high levels of the hormone prolactin, either due to tumors in the pituitary gland or to unknown causes. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. What is Dostinex?Have you ever felt a loss of libido or sexual desire? Is the thought of sex less interesting lately? Dostinex can renew your passions in a way Viagra and other drugs can’t. Instead of giving you an erection, it works on your brain to increase your want for sex, and thus increasing the passion in your relationship.
How does Dostinex differ from Viagra?Dostinex is very different from Viagra. Viagra is a medication specifically for erectile dysfunction. Viagra will do absolutely nothing for other essential aspects of good sexual function such as libido (sex drive, arousal & excitement), orgasm and ejaculation.
Viagra is a great medicine and has helped many men achieve erections, but that’s just part of what’s needed. Viagra is much like the erection you sometimes get when you wake up (aka “morning wood”). Viagra will just increase the blood flow in the penis causing an erection. It has nothing to do with libido, orgasm, ejaculation and other elements that constitute good sex. That’s the reason men complain that although they can have erections, sex is still not the same as it was when they were young. Why? Because their libido (sex drive) is much lower than it used to be when they were young.
This is where Dostinex shines over Viagra. Dostinex does everything that Viagra doesn’t do. Dostinex improves libido, orgasm and ejaculation. Dostinex is a new drug from the dopaminergic family of drugs that decreases the hormone prolactin. Prolactin is the number one libido killer! Prolactin is the hormone that is also secreted in women after giving birth. That’s the reason women have extremely low or no sex drive at all after having given birth and for as long as they are breast feeding. Men with high levels of prolactin such as those that suffer from prolactinoma have no sex drive. As we age prolactin levels may become high for many perfectly healthy men, causing low sex drive.
Prolactin is the same hormone is secreted immediately after ejaculation and makes you feel like ‘you don’t feel like anymore’. Its part of the reason you just want to go sleep after ejaculation with no will for another. Dostinex will decrease this hormone and increase your libido substantially. You’ll more likely feel like want to have sex and you may experience multiple orgasms as well as overwhelming orgasms and stronger ejaculations. High levels of prolactin were also shown to cause depression and affect well-being. By lowering prolactin, Dostinex may actually improve your well-being and generally make your ‘feel better’.

Emla cream contains two active ingredients, lidocaine (previously known as lignocaine in the UK) and prilocaine. These are both a type of medicine called a local anaesthetic. They are used to numb areas that would otherwise feel pain.
Pain is caused by the stimulation of pain receptors at the ends of nerves. The stimulation causes sodium to enter the nerve ending, which causes an electrical signal to build up in the nerve. When this electrical signal is big enough, it passes along the nerve to the brain, where the signal is interpreted as pain.
Lidocaine and prilocaine work by temporarily blocking this pathway of pain signals along nerves. They do this by stopping the sodium entering the nerve ending at the site of the pain. This prevents an electrical signal building up and passing along the nerve fibres to the brain.
When Emla cream is applied to the skin, the lidocaine and prilocaine prevent pain signals passing from that area to the brain and so numb the skin. This means otherwise painful procedures can be performed without causing pain.
The cream can be used to temporarily numb the surface of the skin before procedures such as injections, taking blood samples and minor skin surgery. The cream is applied in a thick layer underneath a dressing for at least one hour (at least two hours for procedures on large areas, eg split skin grafting) and up to five hours before the procedure. Your doctor, pharmacist or nurse will either apply the cream, or show you how much to use and where to apply it. This will depend on the procedure that will be performed. The dressing is removed just before the medical procedure starts. You can get dressings to use with the cream from your pharmacist or doctor.
Under the supervision of a medical professional, the cream may also be used to temporarily numb the genitals in adults before the removal of genital warts (no dressings required for this use). The cream is applied five to ten minutes before this procedure starts.
Temporarily numbing the surface of the skin before potentially painful procedures such as injections, taking blood and minor skin surgery.
Temporarily numbing the genitals in adults before the removal of genital warts (only under the supervision of a medical professional).
Epanutin capsules, oral suspension and infatabs all contain the active ingredient phenytoin, which is a type of medicine called an anticonvulsant. (NB. Phenytoin is also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.) Phenytoin is used to treat epilepsy and works by stabilising electrical activity in the brain.
The brain and nerves are made up of many nerve cells that communicate with each other through electrical signals. These signals must be carefully regulated for the brain and nerves to function properly. When abnormally rapid and repetitive electrical signals are released in the brain, the brain becomes over-stimulated and normal function is disturbed. This can result in fits or seizures.
Phenytoin prevents seizures by preventing the excessive electrical activity in the brain. It is thought to achieve this by preventing sodium from entering nerve cells when they begin to fire rapid and repetitive electrical signals. A build up of sodium in the nerve cells is necessary for the electrical signal to build up and be passed on to other nerve cells. As phenytoin prevents this, it helps stabilise the electrical activity in the brain.
As phenytoin stabilises electrical nerve activity, it can also be used to treat a condition called trigeminal neuralgia, in which the facial nerves spontaneously send messages of pain to the brain. Phenytoin prevents the nerve signals being sent inappropriately and relieves the pain of this condition. Phenytoin should only be used as second line therapy for this condition, in people who cannot take another medicine called carbamazepine, or for people in whom carbamazepine is ineffective.
What is it used for?<>Epilepsy. Phenytoin is used to treat generalised tonic-clonic seizures (grand mal epilepsy) and partial seizures.
Seizures associated with brain surgery or head injury.
Severe pain in the lips, gums, cheek, chin or eye caused by a disorder of the nerves in the face (trigeminal neuralgia).
Erythrocin tablets contain the active ingredient erythromycin, which is a type of medicine known as a macrolide antibiotic. It is used to treat infections caused by bacteria. (NB. Erythromycin is also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.)
Erythromycin works by preventing bacteria from producing proteins that are essential to them. Without these proteins the bacteria cannot grow, replicate and increase in numbers. Erythromycin doesn
Estraderm, estradiol transdermal system, is designed to release estradiol through a rate-limiting membrane continuously upon application to intact skin.
EstradermEstraderm is manufactured by Novartis Pharmaceuticals Inc. This medicine is an estrogen hormone used to provide female hormone when the body no longer produces enough. It is also used to help prevent osteoporosis (weakened bones). This medicine may also be used to treat cancer and other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Each Estraderm patch is individually sealed in a protective pouch and is applied directly to the skin. A stiff protective liner covers the adhesive side of the Estraderm patch. Remove the liner by sliding it sideways between your thumb and index finger. Holding the Estraderm patch at one edge, remove the protective liner and discard it. Try to avoid touching the adhesive. Use immediately after removing the liner. If you are using Alora, Vivelle, or Vivelle-Dot peel off one side of the protective liner and discard it. Use the other half of the liner as a handle until you have applied the sticky area, then fold back the remaining side of the patch, pull off the rest of the liner, and smooth the second half of the patch onto your skin. Apply the adhesive side to a clean, dry area of your skin on the trunk of your body (including the buttocks and abdomen). Do not apply to your breasts or waist. Firmly press the patch in place with the palm of your hand for about 10 seconds, to make sure the edges are flat against your skin. When first using Estraderm, start on the lower abdomen. Estraderm is applied only to the abdomen or upper buttock, and is pressed in place with the fingers. Contact with water during bathing, swimming, or showering will not affect the patch. The application site must be rotated. Allow an interval of at least 1 week between applications to a particular site. Alora, Esclim, Estraderm, Vivelle, and Vivelle-Dot patches should be replaced twice a week; Estraderm once weekly. --If you miss a dose...If you forget to apply a new Estraderm patch when you are supposed to, do it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time to change Estraderm patches anyway, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not apply more than the prescribed number of Estraderm patches at a time.
--Storage instructions...
Store the Estraderm patches at room temperature, in their sealed pouches.
Ezetimibe (e-ZET-e-mibe) is used to lower cholesterol and triglyceride (fat-like substances) levels in the blood. Using this medicine may help prevent medical problems caused by such substances clogging the blood vessels.
Ezetimibe is a new kind of cholesterol-lowering drug. The older cholesterol-lowering drugs called "statins" reduce cholesterol by interfering with its production in the body. Zetia acts by diminishing the absorption of dietary cholesterol through the intestines.
Ezetimibe may be taken alone or with a statin drug. Because the two drugs fight cholesterol in different ways, the Ezetimibe/statin combination has a greater impact than either drug alone.
Cholesterol--especially "bad" LDL cholesterol--promotes clogged arteries, increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke. "Good" HDL cholesterol helps to prevent clogged arteries. Zetia lowers the bad cholesterol and raises the good. It also lowers total cholesterol readings and reduces levels of triglycerides (fats in the blood).
Cholesterol-lowering drugs are typically prescribed for people who either have heart disease or are in danger of developing it. For people at high risk of heart disease, current guidelines call for considering drug therapy when LDL levels reach 130. For people at lower risk, the cut-off is 160. For those at little or no risk, it's 190.Inhibits absorption of cholesterol by the small intestine.Ezetimibe reduces the amount of cholesterol absorbed by the body.
Ezetimibe is used to treat high cholesterol. Ezetimibe is sometimes given with other cholesterol-lowering medications.Ezetrol is used either alone or with other cholesterol lowering drugs (e.g., HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors or "statins"), along with a cholesterol-lowering diet, to help lower cholesterol in the blood. Reducing cholesterol helps prevent strokes and heart attacks. Ezetimibe works by reducing the amount of cholesterol your body absorbs from your diet.

Flixotide Inhaler is used to treat asthma in people who need regular treatment.
This medicine is a corticosteroid used to treat asthma. This medicine is also used to prevent asthma attacks. IT WILL NOT STOP an asthma attack once one has started. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Fluticasone propionate is used to control the signs and symptoms of asthma that are responsive to orally inhaled corticosteroids. It is also used as a nasal spray to relieve nasal congestion in the treatment of seasonal and perennial rhinitis (runny nose) where inflammation of the lining of the nose causes it to run.
Fluticasone (floo-TIK-a-sone) belongs to the family of medicines known as corticosteroids (cortisone-like medicines). It is used to help prevent the symptoms of asthma. When used regularly every day, inhaled fluticasone decreases the number and severity of asthma attacks. However, it will not relieve an asthma attack that has already started.
Inhaled fluticasone works by preventing certain cells in the lungs and breathing passages from releasing substances that cause asthma symptoms.
This medicine may be used with other asthma medicines, such as bronchodilators (medicines that open up narrowed breathing passages) or other corticosteroids taken by mouth.
Fluticasone is a steroid. It prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation.
Fluticasone inhalation is used to prevent asthma attacks. It will not treat an asthma attack that has already begun.
Preventing or reducing the frequency and seriousness of bronchial asthma attacks. Flixotide Aerosol Inhaler does not help during an acute asthma attack.
Flixotide Aerosol Inhaler is a corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammatory reactions in the airways in response to allergens and irritants in the air.Use -Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent is used to reduce inflammation in airways. As an inhaler it is used for breathing problems like asthma.
How It Works -Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent is a steroid which reduces the inflammation of nasal passages or bronchial tissue. By reducing the inflammation, Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent makes breathing easier.
Side Effects -Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent is as effective as other inhaled steroids for airway problems, but because less of it is absorbed into the rest of the body, fewer side effects are seen.
Cautions for People -If other inhalers have not worked, people might try a Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent product. However, anyone who has a problem with inhaled steroids or has difficulty in operating an inhaler should avoid Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent's use.
Drug Interactions -Being a steroid, the Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent inhaler can produce and/or worsen yeast infections in the mouth. Use with other steroid inhalers compounds this problem.
Flixotide Aerosol Inhaler is a corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammatory reactions in the airways in response to allergens and irritants in the air.Active Ingredients: fluticasone propionate Fluticasone is a synthetic corticosteroid and is used to decrease inflammation in the lungs. When fluticasone is inhaled into the lungs it is absorbed into the cells of the lungs and airways. Here it works by preventing the release of certain chemicals from the cells. These chemicals are important in the immune system and are normally involved in producing immune and allergic responses that result in inflammation. By decreasing the release of these chemicals in the lungs and airways, inflammation is reduced.
Tamsulosin (tam-SOO-loh-sin) is used to treat the signs and symptoms of benign enlargement of the prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH). Benign enlargement of the prostate is a problem that can occur in men as they get older. The prostate gland is located below the bladder. As the prostate gland enlarges, certain muscles in the gland may become tight and get in the way of the tube that drains urine from the bladder. This can cause problems in urinating, such as a need to urinate often, a weak stream when urinating, or a feeling of not being able to empty the bladder completely.
Tamsulosin helps relax the muscles in the prostate and the opening of the bladder. This may help increase the flow of urine and/or decrease the symptoms. However, tamsulosin will not shrink the prostate. The prostate may continue to get larger. This may cause the symptoms to become worse over time. Therefore, even though tamsulosin may lessen the problems caused by enlarged prostate now, surgery still may be needed in the future.
Flomax is used to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate--a condition technically known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. The walnut-sized prostate gland surrounds the urethra (the duct that drains the bladder). If the gland becomes enlarged, it can squeeze the urethra, interfering with the flow of urine. This can cause difficulty in starting urination, a weak flow of urine, and the need to urinate urgently or more frequently. Flomax doesn't shrink the prostate. Instead, it relaxes the muscle around it, freeing the flow of urine and decreasing urinary symptoms.
Tamsulosin is in a group of drugs called alpha-adrenergic (AL-fa ad-ren-ER-jik) blockers. Tamsulosin relaxes your veins and arteries so that blood can more easily pass through them. It also relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.
Tamsulosin is used to improve urination in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate).Flomax / Flomaxtra is used to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate--a condition technically known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. Fluconazole capsules, suspension and infusion all contain the active ingredient fluconazole, which is a type of medicine called a triazole antifungal. (NB. Fluconazole is also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.) Fluconazole is used to treat infections with fungi and yeasts.
Fluconazole kills the fungi that are causing an infection by interfering with their cell membranes. It works by stopping the fungi from producing a substance called ergosterol, which is an essential component of fungal cell membranes. The disruption in production of ergosterol causes holes to appear in the fungal cell membrane.
The cell membranes of fungi are vital for their survival. They keep unwanted substances from entering the cells and stop the contents of the cells from leaking out. As fluconazole causes holes to appear in the cell membranes, essential constituents of the fungal cells can leak out. This kills the fungi and treats the infection.
Fluconazole is used to treat a number of different types of fungal and yeast infections, particularly those caused by Candida or Cryptococcus species of fungi.
It can be taken by mouth or may be administered via a drip into a vein (intravenous infusion) depending on the type and severity of the infection. The length of treatment will also depend on the type and severity of the infection, for example vaginal thrush can normally treated with a single dose by mouth, while some other infections may require six to eight weeks of treatment.
Fungal skin infections, such as athlete's foot (tinea pedis), ringworm (tinea corporis), jock itch (tinea cruris), pityriasis versicolor, or Candida skin infections.
Candida infections of the linings (mucosa) of the mouth (oral thrush), throat, lungs or urinary tract.
Internal fungal infections caused by Candida, eg infections of the bloodstream, urinary tract, heart, lungs, abdomen or other widespread internal infections (systemic candidiasis).
Inflammation of the vagina (vaginitis) caused by infection with Candida albicans (also known as vaginal thrush).
Inflammation of the penis and/or foreskin (candidal balanitis) caused by infection with Candida albicans (also known as thrush).
Fungal infections caused by Cryptococcus fungi (cryptococcosis), including cryptococcal meningitis and infections affecting the lungs or skin.
Preventing relapse of disease caused by Cryptococcus fungi, eg cryptococcal meningitis, in people with AIDS.
Preventing fungal infections in people with a weakened immune system and low white blood cell counts, for example due to chemotherapy, radiotherapy or bone marrow transplants.
Fluconazole is used for: Treating and preventing certain yeast and fungal infections. Fluconazole is an antifungal antibiotic.
Fluconazole is used to treat infections caused by fungus, which can invade any part of the body including the mouth, throat, esophagus, lungs, bladder, genital area, and the blood.
Fluconazole is also used to prevent fungal infection in people with weak immune systems caused by cancer treatment, bone marrow transplant, or diseases such as AIDS.
Fluconazole is used to treat fungal infections called candidiasis (also known as thrush or yeast infections). These include vaginal infections, throat infections, and fungal infections elsewhere in the body, such as infections of the urinary tract, peritonitis (inflammation of the lining of the abdomen), and pneumonia. Fluconazole is also prescribed to guard against candidiasis in some people receiving bone marrow transplants, and is used to treat meningitis (brain or spinal cord inflammation) caused by another type of fungus.
In addition, Fluconazole is now being prescribed for fungal infections in kidney and liver transplant patients, and fungal infections in patients with AIDS.Fluconazole is used to treat fungal infections called candidiasis (also known as thrush or yeast infections). The most common Fluconazole side effect for people taking more than one dose is nausea. For women taking a single dose to treat vaginal infection, the most common side effects are abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, and nausea; changes in taste, dizziness, and indigestion may occur less often.
Less common Fluconazole side effects may include: Abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, skin rash, vomiting
Alendronate (a-LEN-dro-nate) is used to prevent or treat osteoporosis (thinning of the bone) in women after menopause and to treat osteoporosis in men. It may also be used to treat Paget's disease of bone and osteoporosis (thinning of the bone) caused by glucocorticoid treatment.
Fosamax is prescribed for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, the brittle bone disease, in postmenopausal women. It is also used to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis, and is prescribed for both men and women who have developed a form of osteoporosis sometimes caused by steroid medications such as prednisone. This drug can also be used to relieve Paget's disease of bone, a painful condition that weakens and deforms the bones.
Alendronate is in the group of medicines called bisphosphonates (bis FOS fo nayts). It alters the cycle of bone formation and breakdown in the body. Alendronate slows bone loss while increasing bone mass, which may prevent bone fractures.
Alendronate is used to treat or prevent postmenopausal osteoporosis and steroid-induced osteoporosis. Alendronate is also used to treat Paget's disease of bone. This medicine is a bisphosphonate used to prevent and treat osteoporosis that occurs after menopause. It may also be used to treat Paget's disease, steroid-induced osteoporosis, and other conditions as determined by your doctor.
This medication is used along with controlled ultraviolet light (UVA) to help control severe psoriasis.
Methoxsalen belongs to a class of drugs known as psoralen photosensitizers. It works by making certain parts of the skin more sensitive to UVA light, causing a skin reaction that helps to shrink psoriasis plaques.
This drug may also be used for other skin problems (e.g., vitiligo, cutaneous t-cell lymphoma).
How to use Methoxsalen OralRead the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start using methoxsalen and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Avoid sunlight for 24 hours before taking methoxsalen and having a PUVA treatment.
This medication is only taken on days you are having UVA light treatments. Take this medication by mouth, usually 90 minutes to 2 hours before treatment or exactly as directed by your doctor. To decrease nausea, take methoxsalen with low-fat food or milk. After taking the capsules, avoid sunlight (including sunlight through windows) and wear UVA-blocking glasses for 24 hours. Avoiding the sun protects the skin from getting too many UVA rays, which could lead to sunburn. The UVA-blocking glasses prevent possible cataracts from UVA rays. If you must be in the sun, wear clothing that covers all skin (including arms/legs) and a hat to protect your head and face.
During the treatment, your eyes will be protected from the UVA rays by special goggles provided by your doctor.
Treatments may be repeated 2 to 4 times per week depending on your response to treatment. Less frequent treatments may be used to maintain results.
Dosage of methoxsalen is based on your weight, medical condition, and response to treatment. The amount of UVA light for each treatment is based on your skin type and response to treatment.
Tell your doctor immediately if you develop worsening skin burns or your skin condition persists or worsens.
Methoxsalen Oral is used to treat the following:
A Group of Lymphomas of the Skin, Severe Psoriasis that is Resistant to Treatment, Condition Where Part of the Skin Loses Pigment
GLIBEN is used to treat non-insulin dependent type II diabetes, when diet is not adequate.
How much to takeYour doctor will tell you how much GLIBEN you need to take each day. It is important that you take GLIBEN as directed by your doctor. Do not take more than the recommended dose.
The usual starting dose in adults including the elderly is: One GLIBEN tablet (2.5mg) a day before breakfast. Your doctor may raise the dose of GLIBEN by one tablet at a time (2.5mg) until your diabetes is stabilized. When you are taking 2 or more GLIBEN 2.5mg tablets your doctor may change you to GLIBEN 5mg tablets.
GLIBEN is not recommended for use in children.
How long to take itGLIBEN helps to control your condition but does not cure it. Therefore GLIBEN must be taken everyday. Continue taking GLIBEN for as long as your doctor tells you to.
If you forget a doseIf you forget a dose, just take the next dose when it is due. Do not take more than one dose at a time to make up for missed doses.
Taking your medicine at the same time each day may help you to remember to take it regularly. If you have trouble remembering to take your medicine, ask you pharmacist for some hints.
Acarbose (AY-car-bose) is used to treat a type of diabetes mellitus called type 2 diabetes. Normally, your pancreas releases insulin into the blood stream after you eat. Insulin is used by all the cells in your body to help turn the food you eat into energy. This is done by using glucose (sugar) in the blood as quick energy. When you have type 2 diabetes, insulin is still produced by your pancreas, but the amount of insulin produced may not be enough or your body may not be using it properly and you may still need more. Because of this, the insulin is not able to lower your blood sugar properly and you will have too much sugar in your blood.
Acarbose lowers your blood sugar by preventing the breakdown of starch into sugar. It may be used alone or in combination with another type of oral diabetes medicine called a sulfonylurea.
Glucobay is an oral medication used to treat type 2 (noninsulin-dependent) diabetes when high blood sugar levels cannot be controlled by diet alone. Glucobay works by slowing the body's digestion of carbohydrates so that blood sugar levels won't surge upward after a meal. Glucobay may be taken alone or in combination with certain other diabetes medications such as Diabinese, Micronase, Glucophage, and Insulin.Acarbose slows the digestion of carbohydrates in the body, which helps control blood sugar levels.
Acarbose is used to treat type 2 diabetes. Acarbose is sometimes used in combination with insulin or other diabetes medications you take by mouth.
Treating type 2 diabetes in adults whose diabetes cannot be managed with diet alone. Acarbose may be used alone, in combination with other oral diabetes medicines, or with insulin.
Acarbose is a glucosidase inhibitor. It works by slowing down the enzyme that turns carbohydrates into glucose; this decreases blood sugar levels following a meal.USES:Acarbose is used along with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes). Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness, circulation problems, and decreased sexual ability. Acarbose works by slowing the breakdown of starch (carbohydrates) from the food you eat into sugar, so that your blood sugar level does not rise as much after a meal. Acarbose may be used with other medications (e.g., insulin, metformin, sulfonylureas such as glipizide) to control diabetes because they work in different ways.
HOW TO USE:Take this medication by mouth, usually 3 times a day at the start (with the first bites) of each main meal or as directed by your doctor. The dosage is based on your medical condition, weight, and response to therapy. Your dose may be gradually increased to determine the most effective dose for you. The manufacturer recommends that you do not take more than 300 milligrams per day. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day. For best results, continue to eat a proper diet, exercise regularly, and check your urine/blood sugar levels as directed by your doctor.
GLUCOBAY SIDE EFFECTS:Diarrhea, gas, upset stomach, or stomach pain may occur in the first few weeks of treatment as your body adjusts to this medication but usually improve with time. Follow your prescribed diet to help lessen these side effects. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: unusual tiredness, persistent nausea/vomiting, severe stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine. Acarbose does not cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). However, this effect can occur if you also take other anti-diabetic drugs (e.g., sulfonylureas, insulin) and if you do not consume enough calories from food or if you do unusually heavy exercise. Symptoms of low blood sugar include cold sweat, blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, shaking, fast heartbeat, headache, fainting, tingling of the hands/feet, and hunger. Do not use table sugar (also called cane sugar or sucrose) to relieve these symptoms because acarbose delays its breakdown. Carry glucose tablets or gel with you to treat low blood sugar. If you are in a situation where you don't have these reliable forms of glucose, eat some honey or drink a glass of orange juice (sources of another sugar, fructose) to quickly raise your blood sugar level. Tell your doctor about the reaction immediately. To help prevent low blood sugar, eat meals on a regular schedule, and do not skip meals. Check with your doctor or pharmacist to find out what you should do if you miss a meal. Symptoms of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) include thirst, increased urination, confusion, drowsiness, flushing, rapid breathing, and fruity breath odor. If these symptoms occur, tell your doctor immediately. Your dosage may need to be increased or you may need other drugs. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of the following symptoms of a serious allergic reaction: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor.
Metformin (met-FOR-min) is used to treat a type of diabetes mellitus (sugar diabetes) called type 2 diabetes. With this type of diabetes, insulin produced by the pancreas is not able to get sugar into the cells of the body where it can work properly. Using metformin alone, with a type of oral antidiabetic medicine called a sulfonylurea, or with insulin will help to lower blood sugar when it is too high and help restore the way you use food to make energy.
Many people can control type 2 diabetes with diet alone or diet and exercise. Following a specially planned diet and exercising will always be important when you have diabetes, even when you are taking medicines. To work properly, the amount of metformin you take must be balanced against the amount and type of food you eat and the amount of exercise you do. If you change your diet, your exercise, or both, you will want to test your blood sugar to find out if it is too low. Your health care professional will teach you what to do if this happens.
At some point, this medicine may stop working as well and your blood glucose will increase. You will need to know if this happens and what to do. Instead of taking more of this medicine, your doctor may want you to change to another antidiabetic medicine. If that does not lower your blood sugar, your doctor may have you stop taking the medicine and begin receiving insulin injections instead.
Metformin does not help patients who have insulin-dependent or type 1 diabetes because they cannot produce insulin from their pancreas gland. Their blood glucose is best controlled by insulin injections.
Glucophage is an oral antidiabetic medication used to treat type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. Diabetes develops when the body proves unable to burn sugar and the unused sugar builds up in the bloodstream. Glucophage lowers the amount of sugar in your blood by decreasing sugar production and absorption and helping your body respond better to its own insulin, which promotes the burning of sugar. It does not, however, increase the body's production of insulin.
Glucophage is sometimes prescribed along with insulin or certain other oral antidiabetic drugs such as Micronase or Glucotrol. It is also used alone.
Standard Glucophage tablets are taken two or three times daily. An extended-release form (Glucophage XR) is available for once-daily dosing.
Always remember that Glucophage is an aid to, not a substitute for, good diet and exercise. Failure to follow a sound diet and exercise plan can lead to serious complications such as dangerously high or low blood sugar levels. Remember, too, that Glucophage is not an oral form of insulin and cannot be used in place of insulin.
Metformin is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels.
Metformin is for people with type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. Metformin is sometimes used in combination with insulin or other medications, but it is not for treating type 1 diabetes.
Treating type 2 diabetes. It is used along with diet and exercise. It may be used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines.
Glucophage is a biguanide antidiabetic. It works by decreasing the amount of sugar that the liver produces and the intestines absorb. It also helps to make your body more sensitive to the insulin that you naturally produce.Glucophage (Metformin Hcl) - Tablet
Glucophage is a TABLET but CANNOT be split in half. This medicine is a biguanide-type medication that is used along with a diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in diabetic patients. This medicine works by helping restore your body's proper response to the insulin you naturally produce, and by decreasing the amount of sugar that your liver makes and that your stomach/intestines absorb. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness and circulation problems, as well as sexual function problems (impotence).
Gonaphene tablets contain the active ingredient clomifene citrate (previously spelt clomiphene in the UK). (NB. Clomifene is also available without a brand name, ie as the generic medicine.)
Clomifene works by causing an increase in the levels of hormones in the female body which control the development and release of an egg. These hormones are released from the pituitary gland in the brain and are known as follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH). FSH stimulates the ovaries and LH causes the release of an egg from the ovaries (ovulation).
Oestrogen normally causes the brain to stop releasing FSH and LH following ovulation, as part of the normal menstrual cycle. It does this by acting on receptors in a part of the brain called the hypothalamus, which sends messages to the pituitary gland.
Clomifene works by blocking the oestrogen receptors in the hypothalamus. This stops oestrogen from acting on these receptors, and therefore stops the message being sent to the pituitary gland. This results in the release of more FSH and LH from the pituitary gland. The increase in these hormones increases the chances of egg development and ovulation.
Clomifene is used to stimulate ovulation in women whose infertility is due to problems with ovulation.
Infertility in women caused by failure of ovulation

Insulin glargine is a type of insulin. Insulin is one of many hormones that help the body turn the food we eat into energy. This is done by using the glucose (sugar) in the blood as quick energy. Also, insulin helps us store energy that we can use later. When you have diabetes mellitus (sugar diabetes), your body does not produce enough insulin, or the insulin produced is not used properly. This causes you to have too much sugar in your blood. Like other types of insulin, insulin glargine is used to keep your blood sugar level close to normal. Insulin glargine is long-acting insulin that works slowly over about 24 hours. You may have to use insulin glargine in combination with another type of insulin or with a type of oral diabetes medicine to keep your blood sugar under control.
Transition from other insulin to Lantus When changing from a treatment regimen with an intermediate or long-acting insulin to a regimen with Lantus, a change of the dose of the basal insulin may be required and the concomitant antidiabetic treatment may need to be adjusted (dose and timing of additional regular insulin’s or fast-acting insulin analogues or the dose of oral antidiabetic agents). To reduce the risk of nocturnal and early morning hypoglycaemia, patients who are changing their basal insulin regimen from a twice daily NPH insulin to a once daily regimen with Lantus should reduce their daily dose of basal insulin by 20-30% during the first weeks of treatment. During the first weeks the reduction should, at least partially, be compensated by an increase in mealtime insulin, after this period the regimen should be adjusted individually. As with other insulin analogues, patients with high insulin doses because of antibodies to human insulin may experience an improved insulin response with Lantus. Close metabolic monitoring is recommended during the transition and in the initial weeks thereafter. With improved metabolic control and resulting increase in insulin sensitivity a further adjustment in dosage regimen may become necessary. Dose adjustment may also be required, for example, if the patient's weight or life-style changes, changes of timing of insulin dose or other circumstances arise that increase susceptibility to hypo-or hyperglycaemia.
AdministrationLantus is administered subcutaneously. Lantus should not be administered intravenously. The prolonged duration of action of Lantus is dependent on its injection into subcutaneous tissue. Intravenous administration of the usual subcutaneous dose could result in severe hypoglycaemia.
Interaction:
A number of substances affect glucose metabolism and may require dose adjustment of insulin glargine. Substances that may enhance the blood-glucose-lowering effect and increase susceptibility to hypoglycaemia include oral antidiabetic agents, ACE inhibitors, disopyramide, fibrates, fluoxetine, MAO inhibitors, pentoxifylline, propoxyphene, salicylates and sulphonamide antibiotics. Substances that may reduce the blood-glucose-lowering effect include corticosteroids, danazol, diazoxide, diuretics, glucagon, isoniazid, oestrogens and progestogens, phenothiazine derivatives, somatropin, sympathomimetic agents (e.g. epinephrine [adrenaline], salbutamol, terbutaline), thyroid hormones, atypical antipsychotic medicinal products (e.g. clozapine and olanzapine) and protease inhibitors. Beta-blockers, clonidine, lithium salts or alcohol may either potentiate or weaken the blood-glucose-lowering effect of insulin. Pentamidine may cause hypoglycaemia, which may sometimes be followed by hyperglycaemia. In addition, under the influence of sympatholytic medicinal products such as beta-blockers, clonidine, guanethidine and reserpine, the signs of adrenergic counter-regulation may be reduced or absent.
Amoxicillin is used to treat many different types of infections, such as tonsillitis, pneumonia, ear infections, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea, and infections of the skin.

Levitra has proved highly successful in clinical trials and is generating major interest as a real alternative to Viagra, Uprima and Cialis.
Levitra is a new oral PDE-5 inhibitor for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction (ED). Phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-%) is the predominate enzyme found in human penile erectile tissue and is associated with erections. PDE-5 inhibitors such as Levitra typically work by blocking this enzyme to enhance or prolong the erectile process.
Levitra is marketed by the leading pharmaceutical companies Bayer and GlaxoSmithKline, through a worldwide co-promotion and co-development agreement.
Minidiab is used when diet and exercise are not enough to control blood sugar (glucose). Minidiab can be used alone, or together with insulin or other medicines for treating diabetes
Minidiab belongs to a group of medicines called sulphonylureas. These medicines lower high blood glucose by increasing the amount of insulin produced by your pancreas.
If your blood glucose is not properly controlled, you may experience hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) or hyperglycaemia (high blood glucose). High blood glucose can lead to serious problems with your heart, eyes, circulation or kidneys.
Hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) can occur suddenly. Signs may include:
• weakness, trembling or shaking• sweating• lightheadedness, dizziness, headache or lack of concentration• tearfulness or crying• irritability• hunger• numbness around the lips and tongue
If not treated properly, these may progress to:
• loss of co-ordination• slurred speech• confusion• loss of consciousness or fitting

Propecia (generic name Finasteride), the first and only pill to treat androgenetic alopecia, was developed to treat male pattern hair loss in the vertex (top of head) and anterior mid-scalp area. Propecia is proven to maintain or increase hair count in most men.
What type of results should be expected?Propecia (finasteride) begins to block the formation of DHT immediately. However, because hair grows slowly, visible results from Propecia take some time. Most men may begin to see the first benefit of Propecia-slowing hair loss- as early as 3 months. In clinical studies, it was not just 'peach fuzz' but real hair growth on both vertex and anterior mid-scalp area. Propecia must be continued to maintain any beneficial results. If you cease treatment, any hair you have gained is likely to be lost within 12 months.
Warning -Propecia is a MEN ONLY treatment for hair loss, women are strongly advised not to take or come in to contact with Propecia. Propecia may cause abnormalities of the baby's sex organs, a condition known as hypospasdias.
Side Effects -Like all prescription products, Propecia may cause side effects. In clinical studies, side effects from Propecia were uncommon and did not affect most men. A small number of men experienced certain sexual side effects. These men reported one or more of the following: less desire for sex; difficulty in achieving an erection; and, a decrease in the amount of semen. Each of these side effects occurred in less than 2% of men. These side effects went away in men who stopped taking Propecia. They also disappeared in most men who continued taking Propecia.
The active ingredient in Propecia is also used by older men at a five-times higher dose to treat enlargement of the prostate. Some of these men reported other side effects, including problems with ejaculation, breast swelling and/or tenderness and allergic reactions such as lip swelling and rash. In clinical studies with Propecia, these side effects occurred as often in men taking placebo as in those taking Propecia.
Tell your doctor promptly about these or any other unusual effects.
Propecia can affect a blood test called PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) for the screening of prostate cancer. If you have a PSA test done, you should tell your doctor that you are taking Propecia.
Proscar is used to treat a medical condition in men called benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. BPH is a condition where your prostate gland (which is near your bladder) has become bigger making it more difficult for you to pass urine. This can lead to symptoms such as: weak or interrupted stream of urine feeling that you cannot empty your bladder completely delay before you start to pass urine needing to pass urine often, especially at night feeling that you must pass urine right away.
BPH occurs only in men and is common over the age of 50 years. BPH can lead to serious problems, including urinary tract infections and the sudden inability to pass urine at all.
The prostate gland takes years to grow. Therefore, the symptoms of BPH take a long time to develop. Proscar works by slowly reducing the size of your prostate gland. This may lead to gradual improvement in your urine flow and other symptoms over several months. Proscar also helps reduce the risk of developing a sudden inability to pass urine (acute urinary retention) and the need for surgery. This may happen whether or not you notice any improvement or change in symptoms.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finasteride was originally used for the treatment and reduction of benign prostatic hyperplasia and marketed under the trade name Proscar by Merck and Co., On December 22 1997, 1mg of Oral finasteride was approved by the FDA as a treatment for Male Pattern Baldness.
The retail Rx price for Propecia is approximately equal to the retail Rx price for Proscar. Both tablets are made by Merck and contain only Finasteride: a Proscar tablet has 5mg, a Propecia tablet has 1mg. Cost-conscious consumers therefore purchase Proscar and divide the 5mg tablet, thereby enjoying the benefits of Propecia for about ? the price of Propecia.

Reminyl is not claimed to be a cure for Alzheimer's disease. It treats only the symptoms and there is no evidence to show that it could halt or reverse the process of cell damage that causes Alzheimer's disease.
Who might benefit?Reminyl is intended only for people with Alzheimer's disease, and not for people with other kinds of dementia. It is licensed only for people who are in the mild to moderately severe stages of the illness.
It is important to realise that unfortunately Reminyl will not help everyone who tries it.
Effects -The effect of the drug will vary for different people. Some will not notice an effect at all. Others may find that their condition improves, or that they stay the same when they would have expected to get gradually less able because of the progression of Alzheimer's disease.
For most who take it there will not be a dramatic improvement, but the drug may help to stop symptoms getting worse. Janssen-Cilag and Shire, who manufacture the drug, did studies looking at the drug’s effect on memory and understanding, behaviour and people’s ability to carry out daily living activities.
The results of the studies are averages, so some people did better and some worse than the average. It is not possible to tell whether the drug will have an effect for any particular person.
On one measure of understanding and memory, people with Alzheimer's disease without treatment normally score 5-11 points worse after a year. After a year on the high dose of Reminyl, the average score of people taking Reminyl had stayed the same, and about a third had improved by 4 points. However, it must be remembered that 15% of people taking the placebo (dummy pill) also improved by the same amount. (This is a common effect in clinical trials when people take a placebo.)
For those who took Reminyl, behavioural symptoms such as anxiety, hallucinations and wandering on average did not get worse over the course of a five month study. For some people these symptoms improved, while for those not taking the drug they got significantly worse.
For activities of daily living, on average, people taking Reminyl also remained the same over a year, whereas those not taking the drug got worse at activities like bathing, managing money and preparing food.
Side-effects - The side-effects of Zoloft include dry mouth, drowsiness, sweating, blurred vision and constipation, although most of these should diminish over time. You may experience some nausea and dizziness when you first start taking it, however these usually dissappear in a week or two.
A lowered sex drive is also a common side effect of this, as with most antidepressants.
A small proportion of people have found that coming off Zoloft can have flu-like sypmtoms such as headaches, runny nose, congestion and coughing.
If you experience any unusual symptoms or are concerned about side effects in anyway, it is important that you discuss this with your doctor or consult a pharmacist for advice. Usually these will not be anything to worry about, but best to be sure.
Dosage - For depression and obsessive compulsive disorder the usual starting dose for Zoloft is one 50mg tablet each day. Your doctor will increase this as appropriate. The maximum recommended dose of Zoloft is 200mg/day.
Warning -Zoloft should not be taken while taking any other antidepressant, particularly an MAOI.
Don't stop taking Zoloft or change the dose without checking with your doctor first. It is important that you let your doctor know about any other medication you are taking, or condition you may have, so that they can consider this when prescribing antidepressants for you.
Seretide™(Advair) contains Serevent™ (salmeterol xinafoate) and Flixotide™ (fluticasone propionate) in one MDI inhaler.
Fluticasone propionate should not be confused with other steroids such as anabolic steroids misused by some athletes and taken as tablets or injection.
When you take these two ingredients together regularly they will both help to control your breathing difficulties.
Seretide (Advair) inhaler contains a suspension of salmeterol xinafoate and fluticasone propionate in CFC-free propellant, HFA 134a. The medicine is contained in a pressurised can, with a mouthpiece and an 'actuator'. Each time the actuator is pressed a dose of the medicine is released. Each can contains 120 doses of the medicine. Each dose contains 25 micrograms (mcg) salmeterol (as xinafoate) and 50, 125 or 250 mcg fluticasone propionate.
How your medicine works -Salmeterol xinafoate is one of a group of medicines called bronchodilators. It relaxes the muscles in the walls of the small air passages in the lungs. This helps to open the airways and makes it easier for air to get in and out of the lungs. The effects of salmeterol xinafoate last for at least 12 hours.
When it is taken regularly it helps the small air passages to remain open.
Fluticasone propionate is one of a group of medicines called corticosteriods which are often referred to simply as steroids. Corticosteroids are used to treat breathing problems because they have an anti-inflammatory action. Corticosteroids also help to prevent attacks of asthma.
What is Seretide (Advair) Inhaler used for?Your doctor has chosen this medicine to suit you and your condition. Seretide inhaler is used to help with breathing problems in people who need regular treatment.
It is very important that you use your Seretide inhaler every day, as instructed by your doctor. This will help you to keep free of symptoms throughout the day and night.
Seretide (Advair) inhaler should not be used to relieve a sudden attach of breathlessness or wheezing.
If you get this sort of attack you must use a quick acting inhaler (eg. Ventolin) also known as a reliever puffer.
If you feel you are getting breathless or wheezy more often than normal, or you are using your inhaler more than usual, you should go to your doctor.
Before using -Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE if you are also taking any non-selective monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) (such as isocarboxazid, phenelzine, linezolid, or furazolidone), or if you have taken any non-selective MAOIs in the last two weeks. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking other medicine to treat Parkinson's disease (such as selegiline or entocapone), any medicine for high blood pressure, phenothiazines (such as thioridazine, chlorpromazine, or promethazine), medicine for mood or emotional disorders (such as haloperidol or risperidone), tricyclic antidepressants (such as amitriptyline or imipramine), apomorphine, isoniazid, phenytoin, papaverine, or metoclopramide. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including mental or mood disorders, seizures, heart or blood pressure problems, asthma or lung problems, liver or kidney problems, blood or hormone problems, stomach problems (such as ulcers, or stomach or intestinal bleeding), glaucoma, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. How It Works:
Zyban is the first non-nicotine, FDA-approved oral medication (a pill) for smoking cessation.
Zyban has proven to be twice as effective as the nicotine patch in keeping patients smoke free in the long term. It also has the potential to minimize the weight gain associated with smoking cessation.
ZYBAN is a non-nicotine aid to smoking cessation. Initially developed and marketed as an antidepressant (WELLBUTRIN [bupropion hydrochloride] Tablets and WELLBUTRIN SR [sustained release tablets], ZYBAN is chemically unrelated to tricyclic, tetracyclic, selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor, or other known antidepressant agents. Its structure closely resembles that of diethylpropion; it is related to phenylethylamines. ZYBAN is a relatively weak inhibitor of the neuronal uptake of norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine, and does not inhibit monoamine oxidase. The mechanism by which ZYBAN enhances the ability of patients to abstain from smoking is unknown. However, it is presumed that this action is mediated by noradrenergic and/or dopaminergic mechanisms.
Side Effects:
Like all medicines, Zyban may cause side effects. The most common side effects include dry mouth and difficulty sleeping. These side effects are generally mild and often disappear after a few weeks. If you are having difficulty sleeping, avoid taking your medicine too close to bedtime.
The most common side effects that caused people to stop taking Zyban during clinical studies were shakiness and skin rash. Contact your doctor or health care professional if you have a rash or other troublesome side effects. Use caution before driving a car or operating complex machinery until you know if Zyban affects your ability to perform these tasks.
Warnings -
There is a chance that approximately 1 out of every 1000 people taking bupropion hydrochloride, the active ingredient in Zyban, will have a seizure. The chance of this happening increases if you:
have a seizure disorder (for example epilepsy) have or have had an eating disorder (for example, bulimia or anorexia nervosa)
take more than the recommended amount of Zyban
take other medicines with the same active ingredient that is in Zyban, such as Wellbutrin (bupropion hydrochloride) Tablets and Wellbutrin SR (bupropion hydrochloride) Sustained-Release Tablets
You can reduce the chances of experiencing a seizure by following your doctor's directions on how to take Zyban. You should also discuss with your doctor whether Zyban is right for you.
