Lipid lowering agent. (Primary hyper cholesterolaemia). Rosuvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering medication that blocks the production of cholesterol (a type of fat) in the body. It works by reducing levels of "bad” cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good” cholesterol. Rosuvastatin is a member of the statin class; the drugs of first choice for the treatment of dyslipidaemia. Multiple clinical studies have confirmed the effectiveness of Rosuvastatin in reducing LDL-C (‘bad’ cholesterol) and raising HDL-C (‘good’ cholesterol). Rosuvastatin is a statin indicated for the treatment of dyslipidaemia. Rosuvastatin is used with diet changes (restriction of cholesterol and fat intake) to reduce the amount of cholesterol and certain fatty substances in your blood. Accumulation of cholesterol and fats along the walls of your arteries (a process known as atherosclerosis) decreases blood flow and therefore the oxygen supply to your heart, brain, and other parts of your body. Lowering your blood level of cholesterol and fats may help to prevent heart disease, angina (chest pain), strokes, and heart attacks. |
