Short description
BENCID (Probenecid, Benemid, Proba
LAN
)
Used to treat chronic gout and gouty arthritis. It is used to prevent attacks related to gout, not treat them once they occur.
This medication is used to prevent gout and gouty arthritis. It will not treat a sudden/severe attack of gout and may make it worse. Probenecid belongs to a class of drugs known as uricosurics. It lowers high levels of uric acid in your body by helping the kidneys to get rid of uric acid. When uric acid levels get too high, crystals can form in the joints, causing gout. Lowering uric acid levels may also help your kidneys.Probenecid is sometimes used along with penicillin antibiotics (e.g., penicillin, ampicillin, nafcillin) to increase antibiotic blood levels. This increase makes the antibiotic work better at treating certain infections. Probenecid works by decreasing the kidneys' ability to remove the antibiotic from the body.Probenecid should not be used in children younger than 2 years. How to use Probenecid OralTo prevent gout, take this medication by mouth, usually twice daily with food or antacids to reduce stomach upset or as directed by your doctor. It is best to drink a full glass of water with each dose and at least another 8 glasses (8 ounces each) a day while taking this drug in order to prevent kidney stones. If you are on restricted fluid intake, consult your doctor for further instructions. Your doctor may also instruct you on how to decrease acidity in your urine (e.g., avoid large amounts of ascorbic acid/vitamin C) to prevent kidney stones. Your doctor may order other medications (e.g., sodium bicarbonate, citrate) to make your urine less acidic.Dosage is based on your condition and response to therapy. Your doctor may direct you to take a low dose at first, then adjust your dose based on uric acid levels and your gout symptoms. After you have been symptom-free for several months and your uric acid levels are normal, your doctor may lower your probenecid dose to the lowest effective dose. Follow your doctor's directions carefully.Probenecid should not be started during a sudden/severe gout attack. Wait until your current attack is over before starting this medication. You may experience an increase in the number of gout attacks for several months after starting this medicine while the body removes extra uric acid. If you have a gout attack while taking probenecid, continue taking it along with your medications for gout pain.Probenecid is not a pain reliever. To relieve pain from gout, continue to take your medicines prescribed for pain from gout attacks (e.g., colchicine, ibuprofen, indomethacin) as directed by your doctor. If you are taking this medication to raise the level of antibiotics in your body, follow your doctor's directions for when to take the antibiotic and when to take the probenecid.Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day.Inform your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
CALAPTIN (Verapamil, Ca
LAN
, Isoptin)
Used to treat irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias) and high blood pressure. If taken regularly, verapamil controls chest pain, but it does not stop chest pain once it starts.
Verapamil is used with or without other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), chest pain (angina) and certain types of irregular heartbeat. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. When used regularly, verapamil can decrease the number and severity of episodes of chest pain from angina. It can also control your heart rate if you have a fast/irregular heartbeat. Verapamil is called a calcium channel blocker. It works to control blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily, helping the heart work less hard to pump blood through your body. This effect, along with the relaxation of narrowed heart blood vessels, may also relieve the symptoms of angina. Verapamil also lowers a fast/irregular heartbeat, making you more comfortable and better able to participate in daily activities.OTHER USES: This section contains uses of this drug that are not listed in the approved professional labeling for the drug but that may be prescribed by your health care professional. Use this drug for a condition that is listed in this section only if it has been so prescribed by your health care professional. This drug may also be used to treat another type of heart disease (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy). How to use Verapamil OralTake this medication by mouth with or without food, usually three times daily or as directed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush or chew the tablet.Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while being treated with this medication unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Grapefruit juice can increase the amount of certain medications in your bloodstream. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details. The dosage is based on your age, medical condition, body size and response to therapy. If you are older or have severe liver problems, your dosage may need to be adjusted.Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel sick. For the treatment of high blood pressure, it may take up to a week before the full benefit of this drug takes effect. If used for angina, this medication must be taken regularly to be effective. It should not be used to treat angina when it occurs. Use other medications (e.g., sublingual nitroglycerin) to relieve an angina attack as directed by your doctor. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for details.Do not suddenly stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Your condition may become worse when the drug is suddenly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased.Inform your doctor if your condition worsens (e.g., your routine blood pressure readings increase).
CLAVAM (Amoxycillin/clavu
LAN
ic acid, Co-Amoxiclav, Augmentin)
The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, including infections of the ears, lungs, sinus, skin, and urinary tract. Amoxicillin is in a class of medications called penicillin-like antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Clavulanic acid is in a class of medications called beta-lactamase inhibitors. It works by preventing bacteria from destroying amoxicillin. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid comes as a tablet, a chewable tablet, and a suspension (liquid) to take by mouth. It is usually taken with a meal or a snack every 8 hours (three times a day) or every 12 hours (twice a day). To help you remember to take amoxicillin and clavulanate, take it around the same time every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take amoxicillin and clavulanic acid exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.Shake the liquid well before each use to mix the medication evenly. The chewable tablets should be chewed thoroughly before they are swallowed. The other tablets should be taken with a full glass of water. The 250 mg and 500 mg tablets of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid contain the same amount of clavulanic acid. Do not substitute two 250 mg tablets for one 500 mg tablet. The 250 mg regular tablet and the 250 mg chewable tablet contain different amounts of clavulanic acid. They also should not be substituted.Take amoxicillin and clavulanic acid until you finish the prescription, even if you feel better. Stopping amoxicillin and clavulanic acid too soon may cause bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics.

Reminyl ( Ga
LAN
tamine )
Reminyl is the brand name for the drug galantamine hydrobromide. It is licensed for the treatment of mild to moderately severe Alzheimer's disease.
Reminyl is not claimed to be a cure for Alzheimer's disease. It treats only the symptoms and there is no evidence to show that it could halt or reverse the process of cell damage that causes Alzheimer's disease.
Who might benefit? Reminyl is intended only for people with Alzheimer's disease, and not for people with other kinds of dementia. It is licensed only for people who are in the mild to moderately severe stages of the illness.
It is important to realise that unfortunately Reminyl will not help everyone who tries it.
Effects - The effect of the drug will vary for different people. Some will not notice an effect at all. Others may find that their condition improves, or that they stay the same when they would have expected to get gradually less able because of the progression of Alzheimer's disease.
For most who take it there will not be a dramatic improvement, but the drug may help to stop symptoms getting worse. Janssen-Cilag and Shire, who manufacture the drug, did studies looking at the drug?s effect on memory and understanding, behaviour and people?s ability to carry out daily living activities.
The results of the studies are averages, so some people did better and some worse than the average. It is not possible to tell whether the drug will have an effect for any particular person.
On one measure of understanding and memory, people with Alzheimer's disease without treatment normally score 5-11 points worse after a year. After a year on the high dose of Reminyl, the average score of people taking Reminyl had stayed the same, and about a third had improved by 4 points. However, it must be remembered that 15% of people taking the placebo (dummy pill) also improved by the same amount. (This is a common effect in clinical trials when people take a placebo.)
For those who took Reminyl, behavioural symptoms such as anxiety, hallucinations and wandering on average did not get worse over the course of a five month study. For some people these symptoms improved, while for those not taking the drug they got significantly worse.
For activities of daily living, on average, people taking Reminyl also remained the same over a year, whereas those not taking the drug got worse at activities like bathing, managing money and preparing food.
Product Origin: EU (Turkey)This product is able to be sourced and supplied at excellent prices because of favourable cross border currency conversions. All products are authentic brand names and will include a product information insert in English.Medical Information:Reminyl is indicated in the treatment of Mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease.Reminyl can delay or even reverse mental decline in some patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. It is thought to work by boosting levels of the chemical messenger acetylcholine in the brain. (In Alzheimer's disease, the cells that produce acetylcholine slowly deteriorate.) Galantamine improves the function of nerve cells in the brain. It works by preventing the breakdown of a chemical called acetylcholine (ah see til KO leen). People with dementia usually have lower levels of this chemical, which is important for the processes of memory, thinking, and reasoning.Galantamine is used to treat mild to moderate dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease.
