Medical Information:Minidiab is used for: Treating patients with type 2 diabetes who cannot control blood sugar levels by diet and exercise alone. It may be used alone or with other antidiabetic medicines. Glipizide is in a class of drugs called sulfonylureas. It is used to help control blood sugar levels.Glipizide is used to treat type 2 diabetes along with diet, exercise, and insulin therapy, if necessary.Decreases blood glucose by stimulating insulin release from pancreas and by increasing tissue sensitivity to insulin.Minidiabl is an oral antidiabetic medication used to treat type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes. In diabetics either the body does not make enough insulin or the insulin that is produced no longer works properly.There are actually two forms of diabetes: type 1 insulin-dependent and type 2 non-insulin-dependent. Type 1 usually requires insulin injections for life, while type 2 diabetes can usually be treated by dietary changes and/or oral antidiabetic medications such as Glipizide. Apparently, Glipizide controls diabetes by stimulating the pancreas to secrete more insulin. If you suffer from type 1 diabetes, you will need to use insulin and will not be able to use Glipizide. Occasionally, type 2 diabetics must take insulin injections on a temporary basis, especially during stressful periods or times of illness.
Minidiab is used to control blood sugar in patients with Type II diabetes mellitus. This type of diabetes is also known as non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or maturity onset diabetes.Minidiab is used when diet and exercise are not enough to control blood sugar (glucose). Minidiab can be used alone, or together with insulin or other medicines for treating diabetes Minidiab belongs to a group of medicines called sulphonylureas. These medicines lower high blood glucose by increasing the amount of insulin produced by your pancreas. If your blood glucose is not properly controlled, you may experience hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) or hyperglycaemia (high blood glucose). High blood glucose can lead to serious problems with your heart, eyes, circulation or kidneys. Hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose) can occur suddenly. Signs may include: • weakness, trembling or shaking• sweating• lightheadedness, dizziness, headache or lack of concentration• tearfulness or crying• irritability• hunger• numbness around the lips and tongue If not treated properly, these may progress to: • loss of co-ordination• slurred speech• confusion• loss of consciousness or fitting |
