Medical Information:

Flixotide Inhaler is used to treat asthma in people who need regular treatment.

This medicine is a corticosteroid used to treat asthma. This medicine is also used to prevent asthma attacks. IT WILL NOT STOP an asthma attack once one has started. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Fluticasone propionate is used to control the signs and symptoms of asthma that are responsive to orally inhaled corticosteroids. It is also used as a nasal spray to relieve nasal congestion in the treatment of seasonal and perennial rhinitis (runny nose) where inflammation of the lining of the nose causes it to run.

Fluticasone (floo-TIK-a-sone) belongs to the family of medicines known as corticosteroids (cortisone-like medicines). It is used to help prevent the symptoms of asthma. When used regularly every day, inhaled fluticasone decreases the number and severity of asthma attacks. However, it will not relieve an asthma attack that has already started.

Inhaled fluticasone works by preventing certain cells in the lungs and breathing passages from releasing substances that cause asthma symptoms.

This medicine may be used with other asthma medicines, such as bronchodilators (medicines that open up narrowed breathing passages) or other corticosteroids taken by mouth.

Fluticasone is a steroid. It prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation.

Fluticasone inhalation is used to prevent asthma attacks. It will not treat an asthma attack that has already begun.

Preventing or reducing the frequency and seriousness of bronchial asthma attacks. Flixotide Aerosol Inhaler does not help during an acute asthma attack.

Flixotide Aerosol Inhaler is a corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammatory reactions in the airways in response to allergens and irritants in the air.
Use -Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent is used to reduce inflammation in airways. As an inhaler it is used for breathing problems like asthma.

How It Works -Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent is a steroid which reduces the inflammation of nasal passages or bronchial tissue. By reducing the inflammation, Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent makes breathing easier.

Side Effects -Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent is as effective as other inhaled steroids for airway problems, but because less of it is absorbed into the rest of the body, fewer side effects are seen.

Cautions for People -If other inhalers have not worked, people might try a Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent product. However, anyone who has a problem with inhaled steroids or has difficulty in operating an inhaler should avoid Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent's use.

Drug Interactions -Being a steroid, the Fluticasone, Flixotide or Flovent inhaler can produce and/or worsen yeast infections in the mouth. Use with other steroid inhalers compounds this problem.

By using your Flixotide puffer regularly every day, the medicine reduces the swelling and irritation in the walls of the small air passages in your lungs. Your Flixotide puffer contains the type of asthma medicine known as a 'preventer'. It does not give immediate relief from an asthma attack and may take up to a week to start to work. If your shortness of breath or wheeze does not get better after 7 days, tell your doctor. When used every day, your Flixotide puffer helps to ease breathing problems and prevent asthma attacks. This medicine is only one part of a general plan to help you manage your asthma. You should discuss this plan with your doctor. You may also be using a 'reliever puffer'. Keep using it according to your doctor's advice. Ask your doctor to check your treatment regularly.Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why a Flixotide puffer has been prescribed for you.The medicine in Flixotide puffers is not addictive.Flixotide puffers generally do not cause any problems with your ability to drive a car or operate machinery.

Active Ingredients: fluticasone propionate Fluticasone is a synthetic corticosteroid and is used to decrease inflammation in the lungs. When fluticasone is inhaled into the lungs it is absorbed into the cells of the lungs and airways. Here it works by preventing the release of certain chemicals from the cells. These chemicals are important in the immune system and are normally involved in producing immune and allergic responses that result in inflammation. By decreasing the release of these chemicals in the lungs and airways, inflammation is reduced.

Seretide / Advair. MDI or Diskus®(has a combination of Serevent® and Flovent® in one inhaler).

Seretide™(Advair) contains Serevent™ (salmeterol xinafoate) and Flixotide™ (fluticasone propionate) in one MDI inhaler.

Fluticasone propionate should not be confused with other steroids such as anabolic steroids misused by some athletes and taken as tablets or injection.

When you take these two ingredients together regularly they will both help to control your breathing difficulties.

Seretide (Advair) inhaler contains a suspension of salmeterol xinafoate and fluticasone propionate in CFC-free propellant, HFA 134a. The medicine is contained in a pressurised can, with a mouthpiece and an 'actuator'. Each time the actuator is pressed a dose of the medicine is released. Each can contains 120 doses of the medicine. Each dose contains 25 micrograms (mcg) salmeterol (as xinafoate) and 50, 125 or 250 mcg fluticasone propionate.

How your medicine works -Salmeterol xinafoate is one of a group of medicines called bronchodilators. It relaxes the muscles in the walls of the small air passages in the lungs. This helps to open the airways and makes it easier for air to get in and out of the lungs. The effects of salmeterol xinafoate last for at least 12 hours.

When it is taken regularly it helps the small air passages to remain open.

Fluticasone propionate is one of a group of medicines called corticosteriods which are often referred to simply as steroids. Corticosteroids are used to treat breathing problems because they have an anti-inflammatory action. Corticosteroids also help to prevent attacks of asthma.

It is very important that you use your Seretide inhaler every day, as instructed by your doctor. This will help you to keep free of symptoms throughout the day and night.

Seretide (Advair) inhaler should not be used to relieve a sudden attach of breathlessness or wheezing.

If you get this sort of attack you must use a quick acting inhaler (eg. Ventolin) also known as a reliever puffer.

If you feel you are getting breathless or wheezy more often than normal, or you are using your inhaler more than usual, you should go to your doctor.
