Elidel is a non-steroidal cream that relieves mild to moderate symptoms of eczema, a skin condition marked by itchy red patches that often crust, scale, and ooze. Elidel is approved for use in adults and children over 2 years old; it can be used for short-term treatment or on-and-off treatment over longer periods of time. Elidel is considered an effective alternative for people who cannot tolerate or do not respond to conventional eczema therapies.

Treating atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, in patients who cannot take or whose symptoms do not respond to other treatments.

Elidel is a topical immunomodulator, which means it modulates or "changes" the body's immune system in some way. In eczema, it works by preventing the activation of certain immune cells and blocks the release of certain chemicals that cause inflammation, redness, and itching of the skin.

Elidel Cream is an immunosuppressant. Immunosuppressants decrease the effects of the body's immune system. Elidel Cream is used to treat atopic dermatitis (e. g. , eczema).

Avoid sunlight and sun lamps, tanning beds, and treatments with UVA or UVB light. If you need to be outdoors after applying Elidel Cream, wear loose clothing that protects the treated area from the sun. Also, ask your doctor what other type of protection from the sun may be needed.

Even though your skin will begin to look and feel better, it is important to keep using Elidel Cream as instructed by your doctor. Elidel Cream should be used for as long as the symptoms of atopic dermatitis persist or as directed by your doctor.

Talk to your doctor if the condition does not improve or if it gets worse during the first few weeks of treatment.

Unless otherwise instructed by your doctor, do not apply any other skin products on the areas treated with protopic ointment.
